Earthquake lake is a fascinating account of what Mother Nature can really do. I took my 8 year old nephew who "already knew everything about earthquakes" (his words). We all enjoyed the visitor's center and the awesome views the visitor's center provides. Worth checking out.

The visitors center and overall experience are very nice. I also noted the public art on the building - simple but very appropriate, well done! (Seismograph lines along the railings.) I visited the original visitors center as a child - this is a big improvement!...More

On a calm day, the earth trembled causing this geologic feature. Excellent visitor center. The power of the Earth and water is stunning as evidenced by this site. A great stop if you are in the area.

On our trip to Yellowstone, we chose to stay on 287 and check out the Hebgen Lake and Earthquake site. The Visitor Center is great and staff were very helpful. It was interesting to learn that when the earthquake happened it caused all (or most)...More

This lake was just down the road from where we were staying so we caught a glimpse everyday. Very pretty, windy banks from the earthquake. Very sobering to learn of its history.

We stumbled upon this Visitor Center that details both the causes, events, and consequences of the massive 1959 landslide. We stayed at least a hour. Do not drive past this educational destination! It is important to be reminded that nature can be simultaneously beautiful yet...More

Really enjoyed this piece of history. The visitor center is done very well and very informative. It's amazing that you can still see how this lake was created.

I'm so glad the server at our restaurant recommended this fascinating half-day trip out of West Yellowstone! It's a beautiful drive though some uncrowded valleys with lovely scenery of distant mountain vistas. The information plaques at roadside turnouts, as well as the film and information...More

We was told to check this place out. So glad we did. It's sad that people camping there lost their lives because of an earthquake in the middle of the night. The earth quake is what created the lake. Very moving place.

If you have an interest in geology, this is a must-see. About 40 minutes from West Yellowstone (plus stops), be sure to stop at the various markers to read up on the 1959 earthquake.

It is pet friendly, almost no grass for your pet and no shade at visitor center.
