Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We visited Ardmore Ceramics in November 19. We were late, it was closed already but there came the daughter of the founder.
It was absolutely amazing. She opened the museum and the shop for us and showed us everything. She was extremely friendly and even offered us some tea. What a great experience meeting her and seeing all the wonderful and fabulous artwork. What is exhibited there is out of this world – just beautiful!
What a pity it would have been if we could not have been showed all that marvellous pottery. At that time we (tourists from Switzerland) were on our way to Underberg and would not have had the opportunity for a visit another day. - So THANK YOU again very much!

The beautiful grounds provide a stunning backdrop for the museum and gallery for amazing sculptures, crockery, vases, other ceramics and cushions etc in local African styles. Amazing talent is on display and the uniqueness and quality account for the high price tag. Not all persons might appreciate the type of African cultural expressions, but the style is striking and is some of Zulu art at its best. The trees, pond and river make for an unforgettable visit.

This Museum and Ceramic Art Gallery is called Ardmore. It is a must to go visit. I visited there twice for many hours, as there is so much to see and take in. You can go and visit the workshop and see the artists at work, doing what they do best - producing masterpieces. Many of the finished pieces are worked on by more than one artist – some of them do the sculpting and others do the painting. All in all, the results are quite astounding - it actually blew my mind.
The Museum is in memory/named after Bonnie Ntshalintshali one of the very first artists who started work at Ardmore (her pieces make up a large portion of the museum. There are an amazing number of skilled artists working here producing masterpieces and are sold here and internationally. Each piece produced here is one of a kind – all handmade. Some of these pieces are very large and the photos I posted do not easily portray the size. They are also producing the most magnificent artworks printed onto material for upholstery of furniture and more. Do yourself a favour, do not miss visiting here when you are in the Midlands near Nottingham Road. Most of the work is African, depicting African animals and stories of people that make up our history. Truly amazing! (I will post some more exciting photos of art pieces when I get a chance).

Having a South African partner I have been a regular visitor to Durban for the past 20yrs. We were first introduced to Ardmore ceramics by a family member who had a couple of pieces, we both liked how each piece is unique and beautifully made and painted. We first visited their studio when it was located in the Drakensberg and have been a regular visitor to their present studio. Always a warm welcome and a nice time spent looking at all the new creations. We have quite a large collection and have shown some in photos. Ardmore may not be to everyone's taste but we love it. It is becoming very collectible and pieces can be very expensive outside of SA. I also take advantage of being able to claim back vat on the pieces we buy. Would recommend visiting studio and see the craftsmanship that goes into the pieces, everyone very friendly. They also wrap any purchases well and all ours have made flights home safely.
Ardmore is pretty easy to find and is quite central in the midlands about 1-1.5 hrs drive out of Durban, plenty of other nice places in area also. Would recommend the Caversham Mill for lunch , it's about 400m away from Ardmore by bridge over river.

I visited the Ardmore shop in Hyde Park and bought two beautiful cushion covers. They were expensive but I thought I was buying quality . When I returned home and put the covers on to the cushion I found that as I was zipping the covers shut the zip just split. Very very irritating. I live in the UK so I can’t return them. Now I have to source new zips for the covers, and sew them on at an extra cost.

There simply is no more than Ardmore. Fee Halstead's property, the business and the good that it has done for the development of local pottery talent is possibly not able to be judged positively enough. The grounds are immaculate, the history and success unfathomable and the experience of seeing not only the articles on display, but also the grounds of Ardmore Pottery and experiencing the wonderful hospitality of Fee (if you're lucky enough to be there on the day she is present in the workshop) ... this is somewhere we all need to experience once (if not more) in a lifetime. Voila!!

We went with some expectation of not knowing what to expect, what we found was nice, not earth shattering (Possibly due to our lack of understanding of art) but there was a lot of art there with phallic symbolism to various degrees of obvious there – which left us answering a lot of uncomfortable questions with our son.
It is interesting though, but not for us, the setting though was marvellous.

Ardmore studios is a must visit when in the KZN Midlands
They have wonderful and unique pieces of art and to see the host of artists at work, and their attention to detail, were amazing.

The Zulu Artists creates lovely art work but unfortunately not for the everyday South Africa market. Not even for the affluent South African market!! But beautiful regardless!!
Worth a visit!
