About
One of the most popular beaches in Palermo, this suburban beach offers crystal clear waters and beautiful sand right by the town of Modello. There's a small free public section of beach where you can set up your beach towels, or you can rent a lounge chair and umbrella along the private beach club areas—be early as it gets busy, especially during summer. There are also many waterfront bars and restaurants for a taste of Sicilian cuisine with a view. On the north end of Mondello Beach, you can rent a boat or hire a boat tour to explore Palermo’s beautiful shore, including Capo Gallo Nature Reserve. – Tripadvisor

Not as bad as reviewed elsewhere
We came from Palermo for a 2-3 hours without booking a Lido (a spot in a private beach), Friday at 16:00. We were 2, so we bathed 1 by 1, saw other couples go together to the sea - I guess they felt safe enough. The beach outside the Lido's is a small strip of sand (can be seen in the pictures) that was crowded especially by locals, but not too crowded. The sea was extremely quiet, as a sea "hater" I did enjoyed my visit. Remember that the downside of visiting the beach without a Lido spot - no showers or restrooms nearby.

    Be curious and explore!
Avoid the busy and expensive beaches and venture up to Natural Reserve. It’s a 20 min walk from the Piazza and is only 1 euro if on foot! Much more scenic and adventurous as you have the same water but with beneath a huge mountain. Beautiful natural spot to swim!!

Lovely place spoiled by too many fenced off sunbed areas
Got to the beach at around 11am. It was very busy but what I noticed was the fencing and penned in paid areas for sunbeds and umbrellas. This was truly awful and it gave me the impression I was in some camp somewhere in the uk. Having got past this to the free beach areas it was beautiful clear sea which made up for the cramped free area that was left. They really have messed this place up with the overzealous fencing off of sunbed areas.

Spiaggia di Mondello or the Mondello beach is quite famous in Palermo, Sicily. It seems that it’s a hub beach for most of the local people in Palermo. I must admit the place is gorgeous for swimming, the water is warm and we loved it. We were lucky to visit this beach in July 2020. It wasn't jam-pack with International tourists because of Covid-19. I can only imagine how crowded this place can be if the international border were open for tourism. We were lucky to experience the fun and to enjoy the beach. The beach of Mondello its very long. It has public access with a narrow shore line, where other space up to the street is dedicated to be paid for. Some allocated "umbrella areas are not accessible by public. I love this place but be aware of the crowd particularly during summer and weekends. Go there early to get a good spot in the beach.

Note of caution if you're driving by car to Mondello beach it could be hard to find a parking place during high peak season.

Very pretty beach, but it's annoying to get there and extremely crowded and hard to find a spot.
Most of the space is taken up by the private beach where you can pay to get into but it's always sold out.

If you don't get a spot in the private area, there is no shower and the only bathroom is in the big restaurant building(very big not hard to miss)

Scenic sandy beach located 8 km away from Palermo.
Bus line 806 will take you to the beach for 1.4 Euro, departing from Piazza Crispi, in Palermo. This is close to Politeama Garibaldi Theater. There are cabs in front of the bus station that can drive you to the beach for just 4 Euro/person.
The landscape around the beach is absolutely spectacular. The water is crystal clear.
The only downside is the dozens of vendors strolling up and down the beach, loaded with the stuffs they are trying to sell (donuts, beach toys, souvenirs, coconuts, scarfs, towels and whatever you can imagine). They are very noisy and repetitive.
However, the scenery is so spectacular that will make you forget about the beach vendors.

This is the beach closest to Palermo and you could get here by public transport (bus). Recommend to buy ticket from Tobacco shop in advance as busses are full. Ticket for 24 hours cost €3.50 and you can use it on any buses whole day. You need to validate it once you got onto first-bus. Tickets were checked regularly as it was Sunday .
We arrived at 10 and already main beaches were Sold out. There is an option to pre book your sun lounge online however we didn’t know we could do that. We joined the queue for the beach where you can book sun lounges on the day. Price is €30 for 2 beds and an umbrella and half price after 2pm. They close at 7pm. You also need to give €2 cash deposit for a bracelet that you need to return at the end of the day. The queue was 45 mins however option to be on public beach was not feasible. It was packed as sardines!
The beach itself is beautiful. Water is warm, clean, transparent and looks like Adriatic Sea.
There are few places to buy pizza, sandwiches, granatta, ice cream, water. All very reasonable.
We loved our day even at the start it was a bit of a hustle.

The best beach in Sycily. If you need a break from sightseeing and load your batteries before your next attractions - it is the place for you.
However going there every day may he expensive and you may get bored after two or three days. The infrastructure is rather limited and you can clearly see results of passing time. You need to choose your place cleverly if you want to use a restaurant, as it may be located very far from your sunbed.
If you take the above under consideration your day on the beach will be great!

We stayed at Mondello beach for 3 nights. Now that it is a high season, one umbrella including 2 deck chairs cost 25€ per day. One umbrella and one deck chair cost 20€. Its a sandy beach, the color of water was clear and blue. It was enjoyable!

Superb. Better than the Caribbean as the water is so clear. Very safe to swim in. Children would love it as it isn’t very deep. Sun loungers are only 5 Euros for the whole day and you can order food and wine from the restaurants nearby. Leaving your beach belongings is safe and the people are so friendly and honest.

Beautiful beach but quite a lot of litter after the weekend. We visited the first weekend in October and it did seem that a lot of places were closing for the winter season so not sure if there would have been much open if we’d gone any later. Nice little places dotted up the beach selling drinks and snacks and beds available if you’re prepared to pay the 15 euros for them (well worth it in my opinion!)

We stayed in Palermo and got 2 buses to the beach every day of our 10 day holiday. It took a few days before we sussed out the bus routes for 101 and then the 806. We used the private sun loungers which were well worth paying for. It was €22 for 2 sunbeds and an umbrella and €16 for 1 sunbed and an umbrella. On Saturday and Sunday this was €25 and €20 respectively. You can book beds online but the website is in Italian. I asked at the kiosk on Saturday and was able to book our sunbeds for Sunday. Both Saturday and Sunday sold out by lunchtime. There are toilets, changing rooms and cafes and bars. The water is crystal clear and the sand is soft and fine. Even though we were there early we got beds in row 3 as it was further from the fence and people sitting on the beach and the looky looks men.

A handful of kilometers separates it from Palermo; located to the north, just beyond Monte Pellegrino, this long beach is bordered on the opposite side by another hill: Monte Gallo; behind it extends the town of Mondello. Beach of fine, white sand, shallow seabed, transparent water with a color varying from green to turquoise; a few seagrasses beached at the ends of the beach, mostly towards the north, but nothing particularly annoying. Although it can be considered a city beach, the naturalistic aspect is good because in the central part the houses are hidden by the trees and at the ends, where the buildings stand out more, in reality the nature of the two reliefs mentioned prevails; not even the historic Art Nouveau establishment on stilts in the center of the beach damages the view, on the contrary it gives it a belle époque atmosphere. A beautiful promenade runs along the beach, which is also equipped with fountains and showers. I must specify that ours was a winter visit (a sunny day in mid-March), so the entire beach was essentially free and therefore enjoyable, as well as not being visually disturbed by the umbrellas and infrastructure of the various beaches; the only establishments present were the aforementioned liberty one in the center of the bay, which operates all year round as an exclusive restaurant, and another at the southern end. Things are different in the summer, as the beach is entirely under concession to an Italian-Belgian company, which with the start of the tourist season fills it with umbrellas, sunbeds and cabins, usually already booked year after year; so not only is there a strong impact from a landscape point of view, but also use by the occasional customer is greatly hindered. Easily reachable from the city center by public transport buses, which with a normal urban ticket will take you here in about half an hour (the terminus is in Piazza Croci).
