We visited in punishing heat and chose not to take the guided tour. Explanations were very clear and the whole site was well presented. The mosaics though fragmentary in places were very thoughtfully highlighted in context. Afterwards we talked with the guide whose enthusiasm and knowledge was very evident

Archaeological remains and museum in the Languedoc. Sited near Loupian and signposted from there the attraction opened at 1.30pm. Guides are available written in different languages and guided tours are given at certain times, best to check. The main archaeological site is undercover, away from the elements, and allow a clear view of the building outline, the restored remains of... More

The museum is not that spectacular (except for the maquette of the surroundings) but the guided tour was really good. The guide who was obviously an archeologist himself gave a lot of details about the differences between all the mosaics that have been found. Also quite some information about antique wines to be found in this place.

Bath this is not and the building housing it looks like a farm barn but the floor is wonderfully preserved though the lighting is poor

Wonderful place! Been there several times! Written guides in english, however, you are lucky if you get an english speaking guide, as is often the case in France.

This is a very interesting site – remnants of a large Roman villa designed to impress, with a large banquet hall, reception room and a series of guest bedrooms, and the whole with mosaic floors in all rooms (described as rugs/carpets) - estimated to have cost half the value of the building. While a there are significant gaps where the... More

We spent over an hour touring this villa and didn't even see the time pass. A guided visit is given on the hour (it opens at 13:30) which we took (in French). Our guide was very knowledgeable and added to the experience, although you can tour on your own. The museum is designed so that you are able to walk... More

This was truly an awesome experience, seeing such beautiful mosaics. While most have had to be restored, they have been presented in what is an authentic way and even with parts missing, the patterns have often been "completed" to show the design as a kind of shadow pattern. This gives an integrated impression of the whole without detracting from the... More

On my last day in Sauve, I was browsing a guidebook on southern France and came across an entry for a Roman excavation in the village of Loupian that, as it turned out, was not far away. So my travel companions and I, all Roman history buffs, loaded up into the car and struck out to see if we could... More
