We usually visit during the Gathering but it is well worth the visit regardless. Staff are welcoming and salon is so fun. The gift shop is really nice and the small exhibit is fun especially if you find a volunteer. Parking is plentiful and Several good lunch places nearby.

Stopped in on a road trip and enjoyed the shop and then a tour of the great historic Pioneer Hotel. The man working the counter shared the great and bawdy history of the building and then we checked out the great adjacent museum. Don't miss the portrait gallery downstairs.

Small museum celebrating the area's cowboy heritage, entirely staffed by volunteers. The one who was on duty when were there was a delight - extremely knowledgeable about the local area, history, customs etc. Bonus - this place has a fabulous gift shop with lots of local artists represented.

Stopped in out of curiosity and what a fun little place. Great gift shop and wonderful artwork. Wish the fantastic antique bar had been up and running but it was great to see.

We were in Elko for a short stop on our way to the coast. The exhibitions with photography from the prairie and especially the short movie "why the cowboy sings"(16 min) summed and put a perspective on what we had seen and experienced on our journey, The soundtrack is now on a danish stereo. A very helpful staff. Best regards.

Very nice museum exhibits, beautiful quilts on the walls, and many interesting photo exhibits. Also a well stocked gift shop with many unique items, books of cowboy poetry, CD's of cowboy music, clothes, jewelry, and other cowboy style items.

A tapas dinner was held here, and the old Pioneer Hotel was very finely appointed, and we enjoyed ourselves very much.

This is a great place for a get together. We had at least 200 hundred people. They have a bar and allow you to bring your own food for events. Small little cowboy poetry display and cowboy art.

The Western Folklife Center is always putting on something fun. Every year there is the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering. I went for the first time in 2000 and never had so much fun! I've been a regular ever since. For anyone with an interest in ranch life - historic to modern - or an interest in western music, it can't... More
