My husband and I needed to get out of the house. So we took a drive. We headed here after I was a posting that the Preamble to the Constitution was written in rock before you get to Sand Mtn. And it is. (My preview screen is too tiny to tell if these are the correct pictures..but "We the People...." is clearly viewable on the North side of the Highway.)

Very close to town, t a world away. Take both hikes as each is very easy to walk and both offer separate things to see. The ancient writings are well worth looking at and the view from the top provides one with a view of what must have been spectacularly different eons ago. Take your time, it is well worth the walk.

I guess if these were the only Petroglyphs you have ever seen, they are OK but seriously, the only interesting thing here is the dimpled rock. There is a great cave but it's locked up and only accessible by guided tour. There are a couple of other 'caves' that really are just depressions in a cliff face. Nothing to see here folks, move along! It's an OK place for hiking if you are only interested in a good walk. There are restrooms and nice picnic tables with shade.
