Great place to learn about the history--and challenges--Lake Tahoe faces

Wonderful place to learn about Tahoe and how--despite man's screw-ups--the Lake has managed to overcome and remain as beautiful as it has. (But we still need to take care of it)

This research center is run by the University of California Davis. The tour (opens at 1pm) covers the history of Lake Tahoe, mining and development, and the health of local forests and Lake Tahoe. The guide covered the depth of the lake (1,600 feet), 6,200 feet about sea level, and 6th largest freshwater lake in the United States. The health... More

There are few addresses in Nevada. It is located on the college campus (2nd driveway off Hwy 28) It is totally unstaffed until 1:00 pm. I did interactive activities until then. Some displays not working and nobody to ask.

If you would like to learn some really interesting science about Lake Tahoe, this is the place. The docent was extremely nice and knowledgable and spent an hour showing my wife and I around the center.

The Tahoe environmental research center offers a hands on experience to learn about Lake Tahoe. You'll learn about the formation of the lake and other unique pieces of information about this beautiful lake. Additionally, you'll learn all about the efforts to "Keep Tahoe Blue." Worth the 1 hour you'll spend at this free activity.

Decided to take a break from the slopes and stopped to learn about Lake Tahoe. The Research Center is on the Sierra Nevada campus, which is quite beautiful. The center allows you to wander and learn at your own pace and/or listen to the guide as he educates the audience. I, believe, the tours start on the hour. Our guide... More

I was pleased and surprised during my visit to this exhibit. The docent was very knowledgable and the presentation both answered my questions and peaked my curiosity to learn more about Lake Tahoe. Especially liked the video which showed the geology and underwater features of the lake. Unfortunately only had about 45 minutes, I would recommend an hour or two.... More

The setting is beautiful. The science center is small but full of great information. You will learn about the geology of the lake, plants and water. There are two short 3D videos, a unique topographic sand table and exhibits that are well explained. You can take as much time as you want. It's small, but packed with so much information... More
