Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My father Zack Hale now 86, was hired in 1969 by the owners of The Pioneer Club Tommy Elardi and his mother Margaret. He was the host from 1969-1975. He stood on the main floor, which I remember as being super small, in front of a band and had a microphone talking to all the people walking by telling them about the "bonus spins" and "specials" they had going on. He also told jokes. The original voice of Vegas Vic was created in the early 50's. My father said that man is passed away now. In 1969 Tommy said the tape was worn out and he asked my dad to record his voice for Vegas Vic. Of course he said yes. The original recording was just "Howdy Podner". Then for the filming of "Honey I Blew Up the Kids", they asked him to change it to "Howdy Podner, Welcome to Downtown Las Vegas". As most of us know, there were many complaints about Vegas Vic going off every 15 minutes from people staying at the Mint Hotel. Except for during the filming of a couple of movies, my dads voice is only a memory. To me I hear him every day. He still lives here in Las Vegas and is going strong.

The Pioneer Vegas Vic is a classic sign left from the old days of Fremont street. Well worth a view as you stroll Fremont street.

Good to see a classic sign still around even though he was having issues with some of his lights. An old Vegas icon.

The fact that they are tearing all the old stuff down & the stuff they replace it with is usually not as attractive - Vegas Vic is always great to see! Classic Las Vegas!

Fremont street experience and Vegas Vic, fun!!!!! Tons of stuff to see and do!!!!!! Be sure to visit all the gift shops and stop in all the casinos, and of course, the Fremont light show at night!!!!!!! If you go down to far past the El Cortez Hugh, gets a bit scary...stay clear of East Fremont.

Vegas Vic is definitely old school Las Vegas and so far has survived not ending up in the neon graveyard. Check him out at the Fremont Experience. It’s hard to miss him as he’s pretty tall. While the Pioneer casino in Las Vegas has been long gone, there is still a Pioneer casino in Laughlin, NV worth checking out if you’re in that town.

It was great to see iconic signs such as Vegas Vic! Ride the deuce to and from 'old' vegas to 'new' vegas. Best seen after sunset and before sunrise!

Didn't know I could review a neon sign... It's a big one, but not sure why I would give more stars... Just a bit of trivia, Vegas Vic has a twin named River Rick down in Laughlin at the Pioneer...

My first time in Las Vegas was 1952 with my uncle and brother. I remember Vegas Vic as we stayed downtown. Downtown were it all was. Now almost 55 years later he still stands and greets folks on Fremont Street. When downtown say "howdy" to Vic.
