If you need a getaway, the White Mountains provide a great refuge. The Cog Railway was a fun experience that provided great views and peace. Definitely worth it.

The Cog Railway Train climbs up the steep mountain. Nice way to start a review you will see why. Another 50-State Quest done in August again not in ((2016 but in 1995)). This year was the 6 New England states but for this review I will only cover our 29th state in New Hampshire. The others you can look for... More

As a native New Hampshirite, I've seen the little train go up and down Mount Washington hundreds of times, and a friend and I finally got on the darn thing. It was great! It helped that it was a sunny, clear day -- the views were beautiful. It's not the Rockies, but the White Mountains have their own splendor. The... More

I've travelled on the cog several times over the past 20 years or so, and find it to be the easiest, and most-relaxing way to get to the top of Mt. Wsahington. During leaf-peeper season, the views of the multi-colored White Mountains are spectacular. The only down-side, or, I should say "down-sides", are the cost, and the crowds. Unless you... More

The cog railway was a crazy thing to build, and doesn't really look possible even now! The rails seem to run vertically in places. The carriages are open- sided; great for photos but very chilly. We were lucky with a fine sunny day, but even so it was very cold and windy at the summit. The views are astonishing. We... More

Outstanding, amazing, most definitely wear earplugs, and enjoy the experience! The conductor is very interesting and informative; however, my ears have been ringing ever since from the clanking of the cog biting into the track for the entire time going up and down. The views and experience is not to be missed, tho, so stop in at CVS to get... More

My family loved the COG Railway! We've told others about it. It's a must see if in New Hampshire! The views were amazing!!! We went in August and the temperature significantly drops at the top of the mountain. I had open toed shoes and a tank top on and I about froze at the top. It went from in the... More

We made it just in time for an 11:30 trip. It took about 45 minutes and then you are given an hour at the summit. It was freezing cold, the wind gusted at 50 mph, but it was worth every minute of it. Since the railroad is in existence there since the 1860's, it was all the more interesting.

An excellent stop for experiencing the older and newer ways to get to the top of the world! Although the bi deisel trins are newer brighter and more eco friendly, they are not what the original steam engines were. Try to catch one of the original steam engines if it fits into your schedule. Well worth your while!

The early morning steam-powered trains at Mount Washington Cog Railway were booked weeks before our travel, so we arrived with the knowledge that we would be riding on one of the biodiesel-fueled trains. What I didn’t realize was that the trains for the day would book so quickly that morning. Fortunately for us, the sunny day and brisk tourism caused... More
