I am down to the last 6 of my NH 48 4ks. We hiked Mount Jefferson this past Saturday via the Caps Ridge Trail. Caps Ridge has the highest elevation for a trailhead of all the 4ks. You start at 3008ft, the elevation gain from the trailhead to the peak is 2700ft in just under 2.5 miles. The hike starts... More

Fun but tough hike. One can not mind some scrambles or the real challenge doing the scrambles on the way down.

You gain fast, the 3 caps are a blast if you arent skiddish with exposure and elevation behind you. Highly recommend plenty of water and proper gear for weather, as the ridge is very exposed.

We took the Caps Ridge Trail for our Annual Memorial Hike in 2010. This was a new trail for us, but we wanted something different. We previewed the trail in the summer with our kids, so we were able to test it before taking our larger group up. It's a great trail, a little steep in a few spots, but... More

We hiked the Caps Ridge Trail on a gorgeous bluebird day. We've hiked a lot of trails in the White Mountains and have done our share of 4,000-footers. Caps Ridge is one of the most beautiful trails we've hiked, and it may have been the most fun! If you like rock scrambles and a decent amount of hand-over-hand climbing, Caps... More

We went up the Caps Ridge Trail to MT Jefferson. It took us 1 hour and 50 minutes. We hike on the faster side. It is challenging but exciting too! If you want to make a day of it, then you can hike to MT Adams which as the best views and is the second highest peak there. Beware that... More

This is getting up above tree line the hard way, but a real thrill. YOu go right up a rocky ledge until you summit Mt. Jefferson. Lots of scrambling and ups and downs. Not for the faint hearted!

The trail starts easy but soon gets steeper and steeper, eventually reaching the top of Mt. Jefferson. This is a trail for experienced and properly equipped hikers only.

This is a steep hike, almost all the way to the top. The elevation gain is 2700ft in just 2.5 miles. It does not take an athlete to make it to the top, but you need to be fit and very determined. Pack a minimum of equipment including good hiking boots - Ankle support is highly recommended, and rain-cold-wind protection.... More

Had a great day. The trail has some tough spots, but it is only 2.4 miles to the top of Jefferson. You're above tree line for a lot of it, with awsome views.
