If you want to tour a beautiful historic home in downtown Portsmouth, this is a great choice. Learn a bit of US history and see period furniture, architecture, etc. in this beautiful old home. Easy walking distance from the main shopping area.

A nice little museum but it really isn’t John Paul Jones’ house. The house depicts the history of Portsmouth but JPJ simply stayed at the home but it was not his. The historical value is in the rehab and Portsmouth artifacts contained in the house....More

This old home was misrepresented as the John Paul Jones House, but was actually owned by someone who converted it into a rooming house that John Paul Jones stayed at for 55 days. None of the items on display are from the original house, but...More

We love history and this was a nice stop. It was worth the $5-6. A nice docent gave us a summary and then we did our self-guided tour. Only a small part of the furnishings had to do with JPJ but the other artifacts and...More

The John Paul Jones House in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, is significant because it is the only known surviving structure in the United States associated with American Revolutionary War naval hero John Paul Jones of "I haven't yet begun to fight" fame. Located at 43 Middle...More

Self-guided tour....docent/greeter was pleasant and helpful. I did not know much about Mr. Jones prior to the visit....so it was very informative....allow about 45 minutes to see it all.

The house has a lot of history and some interesting exhibits. I actually like the exterior of the house and the grounds more than the interior, which was nice but wasn't architecturally outstanding.

First - do NOT go on this tour if the temperatures are in the 90s. The docent will tell you there's an A/C unit on the top floor - it's an illusive window unit that faces a stairwell! If you really want to enjoy reading...More
