We did the walking tour of star island and very much enjoyed the experience. The only down side was that we only had 1 hour on the island and felt a little rushed. There's a lot to look at and the views were incredible.

A friend and I booked the last two seats on the late afternoon trip out to Star Island this past weekend and the whole trip was beautiful. The boat itself was a bit crowded, everyone barely having any room to sit and all those who sat in the front ended up getting wet from the waves. We sat upfront for... More

Visited the Isle of Shoals, just off the NH/Maine coast. Took the Isles of Shoals Steamship Company boat to the islands. Clear bright day with minimal wind and no swells on the ocean. The trip out and back was narrated by the 2 tour guides and they provided a running commentary about the sights and history of the harbor area... More

I took the afternoon trip out to Star Island last week and found it very enjoyable. The one drawback was that the boat was full, so seating was a bit tight. There are plastic chairs on the upper deck, some tables indoors, and benches on the middle level. The boat ride was smooth and the narration gave good information about... More

Very disappointed. We chose this cruise to kick off our family vacation. We spent $120 on tickets. The description promised a 90 foot vessel with three decks and four bathrooms. When we arrived we boarded a single deck vessel much much smaller with two bathrooms. They advertised & deceived The Thomas Leighton but put us on The Challenger. We weren't... More

Great trip. Hadn't been since I was a child. Loved the boat trip out. Boat staff was great. Wonderful narrated tour on trip out to the isle of shoals. Great history. Good access to outside seating. It started to rain and there was plenty of room on 2 decks for us to sit indoors. Snacks and drinks available including tea... More

Did the 3 1/2 walking tour of Star Island from the Leighton....the company has it's own parking lot for $5 which is very helpful, pleasant staff and our narrator was David who was very easy to listen to and very knowledgeable. The boat ride is just long enough each way (1 hr 15 minutes) - about 1 1/2 hrs on... More

What an amazing afternoon we had with a narrated tour of the harbor, then on out to the Isle of Shoals. Our guides told us loads of stories about the history of the area (my favorite is about the lady ghost so Star Island). Our New England trip is just in its second day, but this may be the highlight!

Whether or not this is a trip for you depends on your likes and dislikes and the amount of time you have. It is basically a 75 minute ferry ride to the island, a visit to a very small island, and 75 minute ride back to Portsmouth. For me it was a beautiful and relaxing time made perfect by a... More

My family of four took the 4 hour boat trip to the Isle of Shoals on a cloudy and misty day. The Isles are about six miles out in the Atlantic and once we left the river, the seas were quite rough the day we went. Several people were sick on the boat. A guide gave information throughout most of... More
