Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We visited the USS New Jersey with our 7 year old grandson who is a big fan of WWII history. The ship is very well preserved and interesting. It was blistering hot on the day of our visit so being on the exterior decks were “hot”. To our surprise most the the below deck areas were air conditioned which made our visit nice. There are lots of historical memorabilia and exhibits to view. I would recommend a visit if you are a history buff!

Second visit with grandchildren was just as good as the first.
The ship is impeccably maintained, the guides are knowledgeable and friendly, the routes within the ship are well marked. Be sure to tour the turrets and magazines.
Relatively new is the tour of the engine and boiler rooms....five flights down.
If you have the opportunity to visit this or other floating naval museums, be sure to do so. They are magnificent monuments to a bygone era.

It was a windy day but managed to visit the famous new Jersey battleship. The self made tour was made easy by the organized color coded pathways to reach to so many places where exhibits ,bunkers and other displays were available to the public. Was glad to read the documents, perused old photographs and the hundreds of men in uniform. That was a nice and unhurried tour took our time to appreciate the magnitude and significance of this battleship. Glad it was docked in new Jersey where we are residents.

Amazing experience took all the walking tours. Asked Curator Mike at the beginning of the tour if I could see the powder flats of the 16inch guns not on the tour. He took his own time to take me and my brother down into the powder magazine of Turret 2 and all the levels of turret 2 took us to main plot and CIC he also chopped it up with us about technical features of the ship. The engine room guide was great also chopped it up with him as well answered all my nerdy questions. I have seen 5 Fast Battleships this was the best experience of all. Its the people that make the difference. Thank you for the great treatment. Its refreshing in this day and age. Please take your family or friends and see this amazing art history piece.

I was expecting a bit of a dull walkthrough. Instead we got an informative self-guided tour, more exhibits than we could actually take in, and at the end a guided tour of the bridge area. Well worth the price!

We scheduled a tour for our fifth grade class four times only to have the tour rescheduled, then cancelled the day before we were supposed to see the ship. It has been a month now and we still have not seen our deposit returned.
It is disappointing to see a war memorial which is supposed to honor our veterans being run so poorly.

The ship itself is very impressive. It is really awesome to see, and marvel at the engineering.
We paid a few extra bucks for the guided tour, which may have been ok for a family, but was very lacking for a history buff.
The guide tended to focus on life onboard the ship, but gave very little detail on the actual engagements the ship had.

Chose January to avoid crowds and it worked. What a magnificent ship. This time a year they only give a 1.5 hour tour for the day. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the ship, making it a very enjoyable experience. They are working hard to maintain it and it shows. Worth the visit.

What a great place to visit! A mask is required both inside and outside the ship, but it is air conditioned inside (and there's at least two bathrooms inside as well.) We did the green self-guided tour, and it was informative and interesting. At the end of the green tour are three other subtours. Best time to go is now during the reopening as parking is free and there's not a whole lot of other people. Small gift shop, and they have a smashed penny machine. Sign up for emails and you'll get a BOGO coupon. Recommended.

I thought this was a very immersive and impressive museum! I was with a group of friends and we were expecting to spend about an hour inside - this turned into almost 4 hours! There is so much history in this ship, we didn't even get to see all of it before closing. In terms of accessibility, it is a military ship so it's expected that everyone should be able to maneuver stairs, ladders, and tight spaces. Parking wasn't an issue at all but driving can be a bit confusing through Camden - just follow google maps and you'll be fine. I will definitely be coming back.

Hi looking for some advice
Visiting new york on the 20th October for 6 days with family, I'm a huge naval fan and this is a bucket list for me. I just want to know how easy is it to get there? We have never been to new York and not sure on best way to get there. We are staying in central manhattan.
Thanks

I suggest the audio tour wands(?) be dropped off to the attendant at the pierside gatehouse, rather than making tired visitors carry them back inside the ticket building. I know it's just a few feet (50? 100?), but it's a logical and "customer-friendly" thing to do. Thanks for listening.

Sorry, I never used the wand. The human guides were excellent and I preferred listening to them.

Closes at 5 in the summertime.... Does that mean the last tickets are sold at 5 or that the ship is emptied by 5? Why is this info so hard to track down?
Written 12 July 2016
5 PM is the latest time that you can start your tour. Most guests complete the Fire Power Tour in 90 minutes, so most guests finish their tour by 6:30.
