There is so much going on in downtown Jersey City. Plenty of restaurants and bars. No shortage of commerce and large companies setting down roots. And excellent views of lower Manhattan.

The Waterfront (at Exchange Place-PATH station) remains without any doubt my all-time favorite place to hang out, take in the world, or re-discover the quiet, calm solitary walks can achieve. It's probably one of the safest spots in metro NYC. Port Authority's presence seems constant morning, afternoon, and even very late at night.
But logistic basic stuff first:
1. It's totally free. And again, the spot I prefer over all others is on the boardwalk at Exchange Place and Jersey City's HBLR stop. Common sense, for sure, it's still an urban area...but I've been visiting for years as a NYC-lover & much more since re-locating to Jersey City Aug-2013.
2. Why? What is there to do? Answer # 1: BEST VIEW OF NYC's skyline, especially lower Manhattan's newbie VERY tall-drinks of sky, shimmering glass, & chrome. Trust me...It's virtually impossible to appreciate the wonder of it all once you're across the Hudson in the City. (You know: not able to see the forest because of all the big trees.) Don't forget to take your digital cam and/or FULLY charged smartphone! And plan to spend some time trying to capture the perfect shot of the water, sky, and human element combined! If weather is mild, it's hard to be disappointed whether its day or night on your visit. Answer #2: absolutely a NOTHING thereto do if you choose or observe the best spectacle of all--people watch! Or withdraw within your inner world with the lull of the water lapping the shore. It's always calming whether it's busy with the afternoon rush or quiet Sunday afternoon.
3. Key stuff to spot: WTC One inspires me every time I gaze at it in equal measures of awe & reflection on what was...what never changed... and what may yet become. Don't forget to take panorama shots because the Midtown fave blgs including the most recognizable NY golden oldie-ESB & more. Look south towards Staten Isl & Brooklyn and there's the Verrazano Narrows Bridge in the distance. Gotta appreciate that from a distance. The old-timers say it's the only man made structure in NYC visible from parts of ALL 5 boroughs. Remember that for Jeopardy, ok.
4. Mix it up with your transportation and catch a ferry ride at nearby Paulus Hook, still scheduled for operation between Manhattan and JC for another year at least.
Please remember to fully charge mobile devices before sightseeing here. Public access to AC outlets nearly impossible...and essential map apps gorge on mobile phone's battery supply.
Nobody asked for an essay but it's my fave...yada-yada... You know.

Nice place to go , but a little old and weathered. Also, do not go anywhere near pier. While walking on the beach, walked under pier to get to other side and came across a group of people doing drugs and a couple having sex, this was in the early evening, were kids were not more than 10 feet away. Stay off of beach if you go here.

The Jersey City river walk is lovely. A nice broad walkway with an unimpeded spectacular view of the Hudson River, New York City with the Statue of Liberty in the distance. Several convienent ferry stations make ferry transportation to and from NYC a pleasant ride. A must see.

Right on the Hudson river sits a twisted piece of structure of the World Trade Center. It has a stone talking about that day and in the backround the Freedom Tower shines brightly.

Hi! We have tickets for the Statue of Liberty ferry leaving from NJ at 9am and will be parked in their parking lot. We would also like to see the 9/11 memorial and the OneWorld Observatory. We will have someone with us who can only walk short distances if there's no break (probably 5-6 blocks at a time). We do have access to a mobility scooter, if that helps.
Should we take the ferry to the SOL and come back to our car and drive over to NYC? Or is there a combination of ferries that would allow us to avoid traffic, tolls and parking garages on the NYC side? Thanks in advance!

The memorial is an open area in a public park. Though I don't believe there's a cut off for when you could visit, you would want to attend during the day or early evening, preferably before sunset.

What's the easiest way from New Jersey to cross the river to visit the 911 memorial?
Written 15 March 2017
If you're driving, the Holland Tunnel ...If you're parking on the Jersey side, PATH train right to world trade center. If the weather is nice, the NY Waterway ferry from Pauli's Hook Jersey City. If you're Amtrak-ing it to Newark Penn station, the same PATH train to WTC.
Hope this helps

Hello! Question please. We're staying at the Ramada on Tonelle . How would we we get to Liberty Park? Thank you!
Written 7 August 2016
Drive downtown towards Grand St, Pacific St, turn left onto Johnson. Best time to go is early AM or early evening. Check out the 9/11 Memorial, the view of Miss Liberty, the view of Ellis Island. Enjoy the photo opps !

the view of the 911 Memorial can be seen all along the waterfront….you can see it from Hoboken (where you can get a parking spot by a meter) or you can see it from Jersey City…you can park in Newport Center (a shopping mall in Jersey City) and then walk outside to see it...

Can I take a taxi from Sheraton Lincoln harbor hotel in Weehawken to waterfront 911 memorial and Twin Towers in NYC?
Written 9 July 2015
Sorry I didnt see this earlier. You could certainly do that but it would very expensive ($45-50 Id guess). If you have your heart set on private transport try an Uber-it's usually as much $20 cheaper between Manhattan and Jersey City area. Or grab a bus or taxi to the Path train at Hoboken (Id guess not more than $10) and take a Hoboken WTC train (green line) there for a swipe of a metro card (I think its $2.75 now). It'll probably take you half as much time to do that on a weekday as well. Weekends is a little trickier as the schedule between WTC and Jersey City is not as consistent. Also you would need to go to Grove St or Exchange Place to get a WTC Train on weekends. Check a PATH Map for details.

Do I have to buy a tickets in advance for 9-11-2015 to go visit these places?
Please be advised how to buy tickets on line?
Thanks!
Written 7 July 2015
Check "statuecruises" for advance tickets, because when I took the Statue of Liberty cruise, I booked two months ahead, though it was not a holiday weekend. Reason being is I wanted to go up to the crown observation area, which sells out fast, otherwise, up to same day, you'll only have access to buy tickets that stay only on the island or up to the pedestal level. Regarding Liberty State Park, it's open to the public 365 days a year, and only needs an additional parking fee. For other paid attractions within the New York harbor and along the Hudson and East Rivers, such as the World Trade Center Observation Deck and 9/11 Museum, I'd check availability right now. Hope it helps!

How do I get to ground zero and 9/11 memorial from Sheraton Lincoln Harbor hotel in NJ?
Written 18 May 2015
This requires a quick trip to NY Waterway Ferry from the Lincoln Harbor Terminal (which according to Sheraton's website is available 7 days a week). The ferry leads you to Pier 11 (38th) and from there you would grab a free shuttle to various stops: Lincoln Center, 57th. The Liberty Tower is on 58th.
I would warn travelers that while simple, the day trip can be exhausting. One must always be mindful of high-travel times and peak rush hours which can be tiring to navigate (not impossible) for those traveling with small children.
However, the experience itself is a payoff because it is not only a necessary lesson in patience and tolerance it is also a history lesson. For that reason alone, it's worth whatever seeming hassle is involved. It is nothing like the overall horrible event of 9/11 but it is a testament to a city's resilience and overall love for one another.
Happy travels!
