This lighthouse is not extremely high, but could be a little tricky to get to the top as you need to go through a small door at the top to gain access to the very top at the light. A small room adjacent to the...More

Make sure you plan on spending a few hours exploring the old army housing the Sandy Hook Lighthouse surrounds. Beautiful peaceful area great for a picnic or a casual stroll doing the day. The lighthouse is closed due to renovations until May so be advised.

If you like history, you will love this place. Plenty to see, from the barracks, lighthouse, bunkers, big guns, beaches, etc. Rent a bike and ride along the paved trails, visit the beaches, surf fish or just hike around. Barbecue areas near the lighthouse as...More

Great history of the area in the light keeper's house but the lighthouse itself is under reconstruction and will be closed until next spring.

Had a short visit at the Sandy Hook Lighthouse. We knew the lighthouse itself was closed for renovation, but the small house was a nice look-see and the rangers were knowledgeable about the Middletown area. Drove around the now-defunct Fort Hancock and Proving Grounds near...More

We went to this area for biking and saw the light-house from the outside. It is beautiful and well maintained. If one is following the Multi-use Path, you will not miss it. There are benches and we sat there and took a few pictures. Beautiful...More

I love visiting Sandy Hook and the lighthouse is no exception. Being more local, and how crowded it is during the late spring/summer, my favorite time to visit is in the fall and early spring.

The lighthouse is simple and basic - there are a few spots for a picnic and a really great bird sanctuary in walking distance. There are remains of the WW2 defenses - large cement batteries and pill boxes that were constructed during the war.... and...More

The lighthouse has a lot of history to it.The view of the town and ocean is breathtaking. The only drawback is the narrow steps going up to the top.
