Iron bound is probably the aka safest section of Newark. Newark is not ment for tourists at all. There are good restaurant around Newark but I would not go to this city at night or alone. There are a lot of beggers which can drive you nuts

Renowned for Spanish/Portuguese as well as Brazilian cuisine. Ample platters with a large menu selection. Prices are reasonable. If you don't have a car take NJ Transit to Newark Penn and it's a 5 minute walk to the Ironbound. Name derives from a network of railroad tracks. My favorites are: Iberia/Iberia Peninsula (known for rodizio which large skewers of various... More

If you like Portuguese food and the entire experience this is the place to go. Great restaurants, bars and shops abound. Fairly safe once you get here. Lot's of PD patrols.

The architecture and cuisine of this section of the state, not to mention the bakeries. Is some of the best experiences of Newark.

I think the friendliest people from Portugal and Brazil settled here. Very nice to walk around and visit the cafes and shops.

Strong Portuguese and Brazilian influence. Many Brazilian barbecue places. In Ferry Street you can find many Brazilian restaurants that serve "caipirinha (brazilian lemon drink), churrasco (meat skewer), and many other delicious foods. Brazilia is a great restaurant to start off! Streets are busy and parking is a little difficult unless you park in the restaurants' parking lots. Casa Nova is... More

The neighborhood was interesting. Portugese very commonly spoken. The easiest way to get there was by taxi, but it was about half price to use train and it did not take muck longer. Take the train to New Jersey Penn station and walk up the road! Managed to find a T-mobile store here for prepaid Internet, which had been impossible... More
