I have used the towpath in the Princeton area. It is a great place for running, walking and biking. It is clean. There are enough people using it to keep it from being creepy, but not so many that it slows you down. And it is pretty with wildlife to see along the way.

We did a biking trip along the canal in early November. The trail was not paved but fairly flat, the leaves were in full colors. It was a very pleasant ride. There are many parking along the canal.

I used to live very close from the canal, where the trail is located in between the canal and Carnegie lake. I enjoy running and bicycling on the trail. I also went on kayak on the canal : I would go north on Milstone river and come back to the car by the canal. In winter, I also some people... More

We have biked various parts of the park before. It's shady and so it's a nice ride when it's sunny. It's generally not busy. There are several spots to get on trail: on Washington Rd, Alexander Rd or Quaker Rd. You can also rent kayaks and canoes on Alexander Rd and paddle your way down the canal and into Carnegie... There are not that many good exercise walk opportunities in Princeton, but this one is so much better instead. There are many access points with parking. The level is flat and the ground is smooth gravel or sand, very easy to walk on. It is not crowded; you meet someone about once a minute. Sometimes you have to jump aside... More

Level terrain makes it easy to walk 4 miles. My dog loves it. There are many birds to watch. Turtles grow large so the kids like it.

I have walked and biked this canal in all seasons. Today I saw 3 different kinds of herons in an hour. The tow path is great for birders, fishing, biking and walking/dog walking . It attracts people of all ages, ethnicities and fitness levels.

Coming from the southwest, this tree-lined path with the canal on one side and the river (lake?) on the other was like a fantasy land. I could have walked forever...
