Only visited the gift shop as we dropped off my cousin for a nature camp. Didnt make it back but will do so next year for sure. Good info on the environment and our influence on it. Would be a good place to get kids interested in learning how they can save the earth!!

I took my six year old neice and daughter here last Saturday morning. Everyone there is very knowledgeable and friendly. We especially liked the touch pool and aquariums. The girls learned about different kinds of shells they later saw on the beach. It's pretty small: we were easily done in an hour.

This is our third visit to the Wetlands on this same weekend each year. The first year, the focus was migration, last year was turtles, and this year was crabs. Games & crafts for the kids. Live animal talks, local restaurant crab cake cook off, crabbing lessons/experiences. Each year the staff & volunteers work to make it fun, interesting &... More

Informative place with lots of info on the local sealife and has a boardwalk where you can walk out into the bay! We've seen turtles there in the fall!

At first it might seem small and simple, but you could easily spend two hours here. There are a few live animals (we saw turtles, an octopus and various fish), plus interesting exhibits on the salt-marsh ecosystem. Then there is the trail through the salt marsh itself. We saw many birds, including the resident osprey, plus tiny fiddler crabs. Be... More

As an adult I was able to truly appreciate the work being done at the Institute. I learned quite a bit about how the marsh thrives through the seasons and took a lovely stroll through the wetlands. They also had some activities for children, but my five year old was hoping for more bird sightings. She enjoyed touching one of... More

First, if you are a bird lover, you should already be visiting The Wetlands Institute often. I think I would be visiting daily if I lived nearby. There's a webcam in a nearby Osprey's nest, an extroverted predictable Green Heron, beautiful Snowy and Great Egrets, Glossy Ibis, Oystercatchers and plenty of little brown shorebirds that I'm still lousy at IDing.... Today was my first time at The Wetlands Institute, despite us vacationing in Avalon almost every year. I learned so much, and was thrilled to have such a resource so close! Live animals, educational displays, and beautiful items for purchase. These people are doing amazing work!
