We heard there are about 600 elephants in the park, and saw a lot of them congregating around the different water holes. Sightings are almost guaranteed if you drive around in your vehicle or join a safari tour. Our guide also advised against starting up any vehicle engines if an elephant is less than 7m away to avoid startling it.

We did 3 other game drives before this one, a quad tour, a luxury guided and a self drive in a much smaller park. Addo was great for seeing elephants, and the fact it's a reasonable price to self drive...but it was too big a place really! We spent a good 7 hours driving up and down to see the... More

We were picked up at 9am from our B&B in Port Elizabeth (arranged by Frank at saguidedtours.com) and taken with another couple to Addo Elephant National Park in a very comfortable Land Rover. Our superb Guide, Renier, was very knowledgable and friendly and we learned a lot about all the animals we saw. And, we were lucky enough to see... More

The accommodation was serviceable/functional and the service in the restaurant little better than workmanlike, but Addo remains the highlight of the entire trip! Elephants appear to be more or less guaranteed but there's plenty of other wildlife about as well, and the 5.30 am trip through the park was magical. The organised game drive tended to concentrate too much on... More

This was a highlight of our trip to South Africa. It was made all the more worthwhile with the help of a hop-on guide (in our van) who works in the park. Remember that Addo is the size of Belgium! By paying for this service, you can find animals that have already been located earlier in the day. Our guide... More

Addo elephant preserve boasts a wide variety of animals. Additionally, there is a museum by the main headquarters. We saw warthog, antelope and elephants at the main watering hole before our tour. You can drive your own vehicle through the park, or ride on one of the tours (our car was having trouble, so we opted for the latter). The... More

If you stay close or at one of the private reserves, they generally have a day safari into Aldo. It is worth it. A large national park with hundreds of elephants, as well as other animals. Rules require cars and jeeps to stay on the roads which are very well maintained, so you could just drive thru if driving the... More

if you like to watch wild elephants the this will be heaven for you. there are dozens around an artificial waterhole. and honestly i really do not care that it is artificial, because the scenes you get from the elephants in the water and mood are superb. bring a video camera because photos are not enough. there are many other... Two years after my previous visit and during every visit experiences are greater and more enjoyable. Accommodation is great, the park has been enlarged and one can never tires watching these wonderful animals in the WILD. Elephants (well over 400) come in all ages and sizes as do the other animals. If accommodation is fully booked, a one day drive... More

Wauw. We booked a 2 night stay over in schotia private gamepark. With that on the second day they take you into addo. My God elephant overload. We stopped at a waterpool and Just stood there for half an hour watching the elephants play interact etc. There loads of elephant families who come from everywhere around you. Little babies playing.... More
