It was winter, and the water was really to cold to swim. Though a few brave souls tried. Took a long long walk with friends towards Point Beach. It is relatively safe on the beach if there are a lot of other people around.
This beach is very clean and well looked after by local municipality. Still not completely safe late at night if walking alone but the police are patrolling I see so it help. Lots of attractions at the beach for kids.
Dolphin Beach seems to have it all with loads of space for everyone, including dogs, to have fun. Yesterday when we visited, we stopped and saw pods of dolphins swimming so close to the shore, in an easterly direction. What a wonderful sight it was......More
During peak season it is crowded, but if you arrive early and leave before 13:00, you experience the best of the best.
Safe to swim and body surf (look out for the life savers flags) and always be aware of cross currents.

Been to quite a few beaches around the coastline of South Africa and all have their own uniqueness and beauty. Dolphin beach, J-Bay, however scores 10/10. Beautiful beach, safe, clean and the most amazing waves. A must visit if you're in the Eastern Cape.
It is a busy beach on holidays, but if you get a good spot you're sorted for the day. There are some other activities like a super-tube and miniature golf course with some good local restaurants as well.
We popped in on a Sunday afternoon. We found a parking and was instantly surround by "car guards" that want to "look after" our car.
