Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were recommended this winery before coming to SA, so didn’t want to miss out.
We came early and grabbed one of the outside tables. I wanted to do a whiskey tasting and thought the whiskies were made there or in SA, but unfortunately they were all Scottish whiskies - so I gave that a miss.
We did one wine tasting and purchased a nice bottle of white. Service was very slow despite the restaurant not being open and there being only 3 occupied tables.
My highlight was definitely seeing the Pygmy pig, chickens and chicks roaming around the grounds!

What a disappointment! We were looking forward to the place as it was recommended by a friend who had visited before. But it seems many things have changed: we decided to have a light lunch here, little did we know how light it would be. As we don't eat meat we decided to go for the vegan option (excited to have one on the menu). But portion sizes were tiny and prices were massive! We left hungry but with hefty bill

If I could give a zero score I would.
If coming from the Wine Tram give this one a wide berth. We were SEGREGATED from the nice area which was apparently only for people eating though there were many tables away from the restaurant area under lovely trees with a nice view which were vacant. We only wanted cold drinks not a tasting at that point. What a welcome. Don’t waste your time on this one.

We arrived to do a wine tasting before our booked lunch at 12.30pm. The person that helped us had no knowledge of the wine and service was slow. She told us and apologized for her lack of knowledge. She normally works in the restaurant, but the wine tasting person hadn't arrived today! So they have NO backup for people wanting to taste wine and NO constructive input.
BUT they still charge full price for the wine tasting. Underwhelming!

We selected to visit Maison wine estate because of the Gin tasting advertised on the WineTram website. We were very disappointed to discover that they don't do Gin tasting, and the attitude of the people working at Maison was not great either. We encountered other diappointed people on the wine route that were also under the impression there was Gin tasting.

We visited here as part on the Wine Tram route. Next to last on the Yellow route, and we might easily have not visited it. Far and away the best visit on that tour, and including the other wineries that we visited during our stay in SA. The pairings menu was large and generous (in comparison to the other wineries we visited), and the staff friendly and passionate about the wines. If you only visit one winery in SA, I'd recommend that you seriously consider making it this one.

Good day,
Thank you so much for your glowing review of Maison Estate!
We appreciate your kind words and for recommending Maison to other visitors.
Perhaps on your next visit you can enjoy lunch on the green lawns? Chef Arno Janse van Rensburg changes the menu seasonally and never fails to impress.
We look forward to welcoming you back again!
Kind regards
The Maison Team

Lovely setting for this winery with great wine and food, knowledgeable staff and great ambience. This winery is the first stop on the Red tour and possibly suffers from the fact that folk want to get onto the train as soon as possible and pass it by ... don’t it’s a stunner and if it’s not too early in the morning, savour the fresh oysters in apple sauce.

Popped in here for lunch as part of the Franschhoek Wine tram day.
Opted for the deli lunch of meats and cheeses, with a couple of the small dishes. We didn't do the wine tasting but instead had a glass each of the wine. Delicious food, relaxed atmosphere and really good wine. The service was also very attentive and warm and genuine. The other tables doing the wine tasting really looked like they were enjoying the experience also.
Would suggest this as a relaxed and welcoming lunch stop.

Their food is mouthwateringly good, especially the matured steaks. Also enjoyed the amuse bouche...a croquette like dish filled with creamy onion velouté. ortions are light and delicate with each individual flavour contributing to the overall dish. Plating is beautiful and almost seems "effortless". Service is attentive but not "in your face".

We stopped here on the wine tram and it should not be missed. We had a lovely wine tasting with some platters. Alfredo served us and he was outstanding, he even got us tasting the white wine which we don’t drink! All wine and food were amazing. Definitely a highlight to our trip! We will be back.
