Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stopped off at Franschhoek Cellar for a light meal and were very impressed with everything. Unfortunately it was Level 4 lockdown so no alcohol could be served. We received a friendly welcome and were shown to the open, sunny area. We felt safe as all COVID protocols were strictly followed and tables were well spaced. Our light meals proved to be very generous and delicious. If parents have young kids there is a very nice play area for the little ones too.

Where to start, simply excellent. My mother, wife and son stayed in the garden area and my friend and I did a wine tasting inside the tasting room. Chelsea served us at the bar area, explained the tasting options - we opted the red blend selection. Great selection of wines and very good value at r80. Will certainly be back when next in Franshhoek.

We had a lovely wine tasting at Franschhoek cellar! It was our first stop on our wine tasting weekend and definitely a very memorable one. We had the cheese and wine pairing, which was excellently presented by our lovely server Chelsea, she was very friendly and delivered amazing service. She made our experience! The wines were lovely, my personal favorite was the chardonnay.

We visited The Cellar as part of our wine tram tour. We had heard great things about the food so avoided eating at other wineries to make the most of the food here. I ordered the seafood pasta and I can only describe it as seafood mush. The tagliatelle was so overcooked you couldn’t even see the difference between the pasta and the sauce. I honestly think I could have cooked it better myself. My fiancé had the buttermilk burger that he was really looking forward to and said it was average. Such a shame!

The highlight of our half day trip. The tram ride is a must do if you are in the area, but Franschhoek really made it for us. Delicious wines and so well explained and presented by Mazion, so good we stayed longer than we intended. Thank you so much for one of the being one of the Highlights of our South African Trip.

Great choice for food wine when you have kids!

Thoroughly enjoyed our cheese board! My glass of pink sparkling wine was one of best I’ve tasted.

Lovely garden setting and main building pretty too.

Service was good too!

The soft play for kids is genius! We had a relaxed lunch and the kids wore themselves out and loved it !

The cellars produce wine from juice and has a good range to taste and for sale. pairings with cheese and chocolate were good value and interesting. Service was better than others on the tram tour. Would recommend a stop here.

We chose their six round wine and cheese tasting. Four great combinations, one medium and best red wine was destroyed with unsuitable blue cheese. Luckily we saw the trap from a distance - and did not let cheese destroy good wine.
Our waiter was a nice and clever guy. Really pleasant conversation with him. Finally we wanted to test also their top wines - and one bottle traveled with us to North. One day it gives us big enjoyment and pleasant vibes and memories.
They have good variety of tastings and combination. Go and check your one!

Close to the road, no vineyard. Not a nice ambiance and poor service.
We made a reservation weeks ago. Still after 40 min. No lunch. A simple ciabatta salmon.
No one to ask why we had to wait this long.
Even got the wrong kind of wine..
All the other stops for lunch on the wine tram/bus are much, much nicer.

My husband and I stopped here during our wine tram excursion, and had the best service and tasting of our visit. We really enjoyed the “pinotage experience” as we had the opportunity to taste a number of pinotage wines. Our server was very knowledgeable, and poured us two other wines: The Last Elephant and MMM, which we also enjoyed.
