So good! We did some research looking to get away from the tourist boat, to have a more intimate experience. This was exactly that! Knowledgeable guide, good driving, great service, and amazing whale watching! Highly recommend.

This is an amazing trip to do, and whether you are local or foreign you will have a great day out. If you are from CT you may never have thought to come to Hout Bay for a whale trip, but you will not be disappointed. If you are a visitors - the day out is spectacular, and it is well worth coming out to HB for all the other fun things to do (beers in the sun at dunes, a dip at the beach which is a delight, and number of amazing restaurants...).

I found the guides very knowledgeable about whales and sea life but also about other topics - Brent also does guided tours in the mountains if you are looking for a knowledgeable guide on (nature and culture) to keep you safe along the local coastline and mountains (you need a guide in parts).

We saw lots of whales and sat and watched them for some time, as well as penguins, sun fish, and seals at the island. We were a few only on the boat and you will be very lucky wither way - it is quite small, open, good viewing. And you might be lucky to have some local marine life experts on board with you too. Of course, whales is luck of the draw - but the view of the coastline from the boat is pretty awesome too. I have had guests go out and not see whales (not for lack of trying on Captain Jack's part) who nonetheless had a lovely day and enjoyed the views of the mountains and the town and noordhoek/kommetjie from the boat. I was lucky that we had whales galore!

Really worth the excursion, even if you don't love boats (I get sea sick but the whales do make it worth it...)

You always read that the whale season around Kaapstad is in wintertime. The guide Brent Thomas explained that there are whales all year round. So I joined a group and we set of to sea in the rubberboat. That was already a great experience but to be at sea and then meet these incredible creatures was a dream come true. We ran into a group of humpbacks, they were so close but respecting the whales. Brent knew so much about the animals. And later we set of the seal island which was a 'great dessert'.

We had a wonderful boat trip this morning. We saw many whales and seals and were overwhelmed. The crew was super friendly and did everything to make our tour perfect. Thanks again. We are still super happy!! Then although we were already out for more than two hours we did not finish the tour in a rush and got some time for more pics as well.

This 5 star rating is more for the company than the activity. Only 2 of us signed up for the whale watching trip, which they still ran – with two crew employees. I think many companies would have cancelled. The crew members were both very nice and enthusiastic; we felt like they really wanted us to see whales, and they were as excited about them as we were. While we did see a few whales, if you’ve been on a whale watching trip in Alaska or some other place where the whales are practically jumping into the boat, this experience was not that. However, we still enjoyed it, and really enjoyed seeing and understanding the whale footprint. We also saw lots of birds (albatross!) and they took us over to the seal colony, too. It was supposed to be 2 hours, and it went 2.5 hours. The boat moves fast and it’s quite chilly – was glad I had my windbreaker on and light gloves. It’s very bouncy, so if you are prone to motion sickness, plan accordingly. We did get splashed, but would not say overall that we were wet. The seats are between your legs and you grip with your thighs – could be challenging for a mobility impaired person expecting to sit on a bench. Hout’s Bay is very scenic.

Visited Hout bay recently and opted for a high speed boat ride wit Captain Jack. The owner did the ride and although it was only the three of us he did not hesitate to take us. What a great experience. His knowledge of Seal island and surroundings was fantastic and the boat ride exhilarating. He went over the time as my daughter enjoyed the ride very much. A definite must if you visit Hout bay.

I went snorkelling on the 19th March 2019. I was a late due to the Red Bus going much slower than I expected. When I eventually got to Captain Jack's in the Hout Bay harbour, the staff was sooo friendly and accommodating and patient! From helping us put on the wetsuit, to stashing our belongings for safe keeping, all was just AMAZING! As i did a lot of running that morning to get the bus, get to the Seal Snorkelling spot, I was really exhausted! As I jumped into the somewhat choppy sea at Duikers Island I could feel my strength leaving me. The guys were so helpful, they got me back in the rubber speed boat, waited until I was ok, and then let me in again, with assistance... and then I was fine to snorkel for about 1.5 hrs! I was so glad I did because I would've missed out on a lot! The seals were such so cute, fun, playing around us! We got nice hot choc and cookies afterwards which warmed us up nicely inside. Even some warm water into our wet suits! Each one was just sooo patient! And super friendly! And all our belongings were safe! There was a mobile shower, nice towel capes, all big surprises! Thank you, guys! You are SIMPLY THE BEST! I will recommend you any time, all the time!

This was just so worth it. We booked online and everything went super smooth. The gear is in very good shape and you are well looked after. There is a briefing upfront snorkelling and afterwards you get a towel and a hot chocolat. The Crew is working hard to give you a good experience. Felt very safe every minute of the trip. The seals are so cute and curious, it was just so much fun.

Dont miss out on this! Big up!

We did the tour today and it was amazing! The water was only 10°C but the provided wet suits were in great condition and very new. They provides fins, masks, snorkels, gloves, shoes and the wet suits were equipped with hoods. The guide and the captain were super nice and gave a good introduction about the trip and the seals. We saw hundreds/thousands of them and they were so close that they even touched you. Also a friend of ours fell sick, so he didn’t go into into the water but only came along on the boat so he just got the price difference refunded without any problems! Definitely recommend this agency and the tour!
