About
There’s a place, in close proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, on the foothills of a mountain where nature reigns. Amongst undulating hills and valleys of decomposed shale, unspoilt nature stitches in vineyards and olives trees; roots dug deep into the soil, canopies arched towards the South African sun. Only 74 ha of the 200 ha estate is under vine and olive trees, the rest is given over to the mountains and the wetlands where eagles carve through the sky and owls roost in trees close to the cellar door. Visit our contemporary tasting room, perched on the edge of a dam, with views of mountains and wetlands. Visitors can experience a variety of both wine and olive oil tastings in this bucolic setting.

Our lunch at Morgenster was a total waste of time and money. We had a booking for 12.00 when they opened, when we got there we were told the executive chef had not arrived yet and they didn’t know what some of the specials entailed. We ordered our meals and then sat and waited until well after 14.00 for our food to arrive. When it did, the order was wrong, the food was cold , not properly cooked and unattractively served. If we were not there as guests of a friend from overseas, we would have walked out, but as it was the whole experience was annoying and embarrassing. We ate and left as quickly as we could and it will be a long time, if ever, before we return. The chef and his team need to up their game a great deal otherwise they will lose customers fast.

Some friends took us to visit this venue as they were raving about it and they were not wrong. Really nice spot, staff very friendly and knowledgable, we enjoyed the "italian connection" on the origin of the grapes, the outlook was pleasant. we had the cheeseboard with wine and it was really good, will totally be going back to this place on next trip.

Morgenster "Wine Farm and Olive Estate" keeps the promises their name makes. They offer a choice of wine tastings including one that is coupled with an olive oil tasting. Unfortunately, the waiter doesn't take much time to explain the wines instead just montonously recites memorized sentences (and I would not be surprised if all the waiters were saying the same). The platters have a good size with a good variety of cold cuts, olives and cheese.

This is a nice place with a unique addition of olive oil and balsamic vinegar tasting. Our host Levi was very good, and the oils were nice as well. Wines were decent, and the property is very modern and sleek. Olive oils and vinegar are available for purchase along with the wines, of course!

We did the experience tasting which includes full olive oil tasting, wine tasting (three different wines) and two platters (Juicy fresh olives, bread, crackers and a chatucerie board). The tastings were lovely (quality olive oils and wines). The lady who did our tasting was friendly and knowledgeable. The olive oils and wines were amazing and unlike others, quite unique in flavour! And all in a picturesque setting. An unusual and pleasant tasting that I recommend!

Awesome view across a little lake to the mts. We had a reasonable food platter & a interesting olive tasting ....but chaotic service. Wrong order delivered slooooowly. We did enjoy the lemon infused olive oil drizzled over ice cream.

We decided to visit Morgenster for an olive oil tasting.
The estate is beutifully manicured. The deck has lovely views of a dam and the mountains. The service was professional and relaxed at the same time. The olive oil tasting was really interesting and I enjoyed the experience. It offers
We also bought some wine and could not resist the balsamic vinegar which is imported by the estate.

What a special afternoon it turned out to be. The venue is amazing with great views of the Helderberg mountains and over their small dam. The food was perfect and delicious. Had the lamb ravioli and a salmon dish. Attention to detail was really 5 star. The waiter was attentive and service was good. Not my first visit and always very good . Well worth a visit. Almost a hidden gem!

Olive tasting followed by wine tasting. We argued over which was best....olive oils and balsamic are certainly matched by the smooth, elegant wines in tranquil surroundings, with everything well explained by the hostess. This is a must do!

Do tastings need to be pre booked? We are hoping to stop here when travelling from Stellenbosch to Mossel Bay, we will be travelling midweek.

Hi Fiona,
If it is a small group (4 people of less) there is no need to book.

Werner
