The chef and his team provided a fantastic experience while teaching us the basics of Balinese cooking. The menu was well thought out and was something we could make ourselves once we got back home. Kudos to the team for a great experience!

We took up the option of the fish market tour followed by the morning cooking class and lunch. Overall an awesome tour and experience with our friendly and highly experienced chef. The market was a real eye opener and great to experience with a local who added so much information to the visual. Private transfer to and from our accommodation was great and we had the expertise of not one but two chefs for our own private class. The chefs and staff were friendly and fun and we had a beautiful lunch which we really enjoyed preparing which was served next to the pool in this lovely resort in Seminyak. We received a certificate, copies of the recipies / menu and our aprons to keep. Great value and a really fun experience for a couple. Highly recommended.

I like to take cooking classes when I travel (Guatemala, Taiwan, S Korea, Japan, Cambodia, Vietnam) and this was the very best I've ever had. The market tour was fascinating and our guide took extra time to answer our questions and buy fruits we'd never had before. The setting of the class was serene and lovely, with chimes and water fountains. Spotless hotel. Everything was prepared w the greatest care. Then, the instructions were clear, the menu delicious, and the staff charming. A winner!

Dear cultureobserver,
Thank you very much for your lovely words. It is an absolute pleasure to read you had such a great time during the cooking class at The Amala.
I have shared your feedback with our culinary team and I am sure your words will motivate them to keep up the excellent service they already provide. Indeed, the Balinese love their culture and gastronomic heritage and they take a lot of pride in sharing it with avid "cultural observes" like you.
I hope you managed to either take some local ingredients with you back home or find alternative ones in order to practice your newly acquired skills at home.
We hope to see you again at The Amala or in any of the other lovely boutique properties from Lifestyle Retreats.
With kindest regards,

My husband & I thoroughly enjoyed this wonderful day, learning how to cook some amazing dishes. First Chef Wayan & his driver (a lovely man) picked us up from our hotel and took us to the fish & vegetable markets in Jimboran, at 9.30am. We then went on to The Amala where we were greeted with a fresh juices. And we prepared and cooked 3 meals under the direction of Chef Wayan. And made a Balinese paste, called Basa Gede, which is added when cooking certain meals. Our day was wonderful and informative. And we ate our meal, in a beautiful setting at The Amala. We were back at our hotel by 2.30pm. A five star experience. Thank you so much Chef Wayan & your team for a most memorable day. Matur suksma.

We had the best time during the cooking class at the Amala! The place is beautiful and relaxing, perfect to get to know local Balinese food :-)
Our chef was very welcoming and explained all ingredients carefully and showed us some cooking techniques (finally I can flip a pancake in the air:-)).
We got to enjoy the food we made after, in the beautiful garden and it was definitely a memorable experience for us. Highly recommend!
