We were picked up by our driver Ketut, when it comes to getting some place he doesn’t mess around, no nonsense driving loved it, we stopped at Kintamani to take photos which were amazing then on to our guide at Mt Batur base, we were camping overnight at base camp and then trekking up in the morning at 3.30am, well camping ain’t in our repertoire but we thought why not, we’ve done nearly everything else let’s give this a crack, as the sun was setting Ketut (different to driver) set up our tent and then proceeded to start dinner, lucky we bought jackets as it was starting to get nippy, the dinner was amazing , 3 courses might I add yummy honest food, we sat around the campfire learning the life of Ketut and his friend, great chat and opens your eyes to our privileged lifestyle. Off to bed with the alarm set for 3.30am, wasn’t a comfortable nights sleep but if you are a camper it would probably be great.
Rise and shine with a nice hot cup of tea freshly made by Ketut, he’s a star. The trek was tough and by tough I mean holy moley I am going to die however Ketut stopped many times and kept saying slowly slowly, now my hubby and I are 50 with reasonable fitness, some parts were easy some back breaking hard but I can not recommend the trek enough for the absolutely stunning view, Ketut even made us breakfast at the summit, if you want a challenge just do it you won’t regret it.

Climbing Mt Batur is a must when in Bali! I would suggest going slightly earlier and starting around 3-30am so that there is ample time to reach the peak before sunrise. The night sky was also decorated with stars which was something not to be missed especially if you live in bustling and brightly lit cities

The driver was fantastic and Batur Sunrise and the trek up was fantastic.

Unfortunately the whole trip was overshadowed by the Guide. The entire trip up I had to listen to how much other guests had tipped him, from his new shoes to his a $50 euro note. The Guide was negative the whole way up and constantly talked about how hard his life is. It was very awkward and he made me feel terrible. He shouldn’t be a guide.

It was a good tour, all though its tough to go up there. So people who are really fit and do regular exercise only should try it out. Putting stress on your body immediately on one go is not recommended at all.

As for the Bali Trekking Tour company, there services are good and guide Jero was helpful and motivating, he shared lots of inputs about the mountains, local area and about history of volcano.

Good going people, keep it up...

thanks

This review is long overdue but it must eventually be shared!

One of the most memorable experiences in Bali has to be the trek up Mt. Batur. But if you think that it is a luxurious safari trek (like silly me!) it's not. It's a grueling climb on foot up an active volcano starting in the pitch black and freezing early morning.

(TIP: Wear layers as it is cooolllddd in the beginning but you would want to peel off as you get warm from the climb and the sun.)

As I was in a t-shirt, shorts and thin sweater, you can say I was none too thrilled to be trekking, blind and shivering. Here's where your guide is crucial and I was fortunate to have Juliawan as my guide. He was patient, motivating and engaging (do request for him!). Eventually, the trees parted and the first reward of a clear black sky speckled with a billion stats greeted us. Further up, we finally reached the lookout point and got a front-row seat waiting for nature's spectacular performance which we take for granted everyday to commence.

Sitting in the cool mountain air, surrounded by only silence and watching the sun rise makes you ponder about life itself (unless you are a robot). I was later served a light breakfast of hard-boiled egg, banana sandwich and coffee prepared by my guide (don't expect anything fancy).

As the sun rose higher, the surroundings of picturesque peaks, billowing clouds and smoking valleys are revealed leaving one in constant awe and picture frenzied.

My sincere thanks to Jeri for organizing, my friend Erdi for your recommendation and Juliawan for being such an awesome guide!

It's an early start and a medium trek. Our hotel receptionist wasn't recommending it, calling it back breaking. But it was totally worth it.
One needs more than average fitness to do this, else you'll miss the sunrise. Great views from the top over a very basic breakfast fare of boiled eggs and banana paste sandwich.
Be sure to carry a jacket.

It’s an early start and a long day, but so worth it.
Our pick up was right on time. Our guide was super-friendly and helpful, full of smiles and jokes. He made sure the pace was right for everyone in the group and gave a helping hand as required.
The coffee and sandwiches at the summit were just what we needed while we watched the utterly gorgeous sunrise.
On the way home we visited a plantation for some delicious coffee, cacao, and tea tasting.
I highly recommend this trip for anyone who has a reasonable level of fitness.

We got picked up at 2:30am from Ubud for a 1.5 hour drive to the start of Mt. Batur for a sunrise hike. From there, we met up with our hiking tour guide for the trip up the volcano. Our guide was cheerful and led the way through total darkness up to the summit. Waters and head lamps were provided as well as a breakfast made for us at the top. It was very cold at the top so be sure to bring some extra layers - you'll be glad you did. The sunrise was an amazing sight and was a ton of fun to experience with everyone else. Overall a great day, very friendly and knowledgeable guides, and a must-do experience in Bali in our opinion.

Had a great day on the sunrise hike up Mt Batur, followed by a visit to the natural hot springs and coffee plantation. Our tour guide, Ardi, was amazing! Highly recommend the hike up, we were there to also catch Mt Agung erupt three times! The view was great, it was surprising to see how well developed the tourist spot was - with food and hot drinks to buy at the summit.
