I fell in love with upper Hunza especially @borith lake resort . The owner Mr. Tawakal Khan became famous when he was featured in 'Humans of Newyork' by Brandon. This used to be a lodge for Mir of Hunza who used to hunt migratory birds. It's important to stay atleast 3 nights to appreciate the serenity of this place. The lake is at it's best in the morning, perfect for swimming on a sunny afternoon. The water is rather unusual, not exactly brine(saltwater) but high in sulphure, locals call it a soda lake.

This place is 15mins from @Yak Grill best burgers in Hunza & @ glacier breeze best views of Passu Cones and apricot cake.

15mins drive south of Borith lake resort you can go for Glacier trek

10 mins from Hussain suspension bridge

15mins from stunning village Gulmit which has a 700 old house, carpet shops, and best cafe for local food Bozlaj. And Ondra Poygah stairs(1600 stairs for the most spectacular views in HUNZA)

Chacha(Tawakal Khan) his sons who help him run this place, Sirtaj, Zahid made us feel like we're at home. Karimabad is beautiful but very touristy for our liking, I highly recommend this place if you want to stay away from the crowd.

Beautiful, remote little altitude lake in which you can swim during the summer. It's surrounded by dry mountains as well as white peaks and the water is grom the Passu glacier.
A great place to visit just for a swim, a tea with Humza bread of for a lo ger stay. There are camping options as well as hotel rooms options. I really enjoyed the place this summer!

At Hussani a village near Gulmit, there is a rough & dirt road extending up on the mountain and heads to the Borith Lake. The lake is an important bird sanctuary for migrating wildfowl (ducks, geese and swans). The best time to see these migrating birds is between the months of March and June, when they make their way to the cooler climates of Central Asia and between September and November, as they return to the warmer parts of southern Pakistan. Once this lake was an important hunting ground for the Mir of Hunza during winters particularly for birds. On a nearby hill a small house was built for the Mir which is now converted to a hotel known as Borith Lake Hotel.
Going on an unpaved jeep route we reach Borith Lake at an elevation of 8,500 ft. (2,600 m) in nearly 30 minutes. Our jeep stopped near the Borith Lake Hotel and from there we have to trek down a little to get to the lake. The area was too peaceful and beautiful, we sit around the lake and adored the peace and calmness of the surroundings, and enjoyed a tasty cup of tea. The guy at the hotel told us that on that point are many treks starting from this lake, like the trek to the famous Passu glacier that is about 1 hour straight walk and then a 2 hour walk up to the glacier. The other walking trails lead to Ghulkin glacier, the famous Passu-Suspension Bridge, the Borigh Sar peak (4,200 m) and the most dangerous rope bridge in the world “Hussaini Hanging Bridge”. For people visiting Gilgit-Baltistan this is a must place to visit and do remember to take lots of photographs.

Borith Lake is a calm and cool place. We can reach easily from KKH (Hussaini Village) within 15 minutes hike. Please spend some time over here and then you will love the place. Most people go there and return back immediately. That's not fare for Borith Lake.

Some restaurants and hotels are under construction. These will enhance the worth definitely.

Only disappointing place in my exploration of the Northern Areas. Locals aptly call it Boriath (Boredom) Lake. There literally is nothing to do. The small restaurant needs a good cleaning. Food was very average. The path going up form main road to the lake is somewhat adventurous and not worth it IMO.

Borith Lake is a small size endorheic lake located west of KKH in the area between Ghulkin and Passu Glaciers. A mud track from a little outside Husseini village leads to the lake that is a couple of kms from KKH. The track is stony and appropriate for a 4x4 though a car with good ground clearance can also go up.
A serine peaceful lake with crystal clear brackish water that does not contain any fish or other living organisms. There are lot of waterfowl on lake during winters though, including mallards, pochards, teals etc. Mountains behind the lake contain lot of Himalayan Ibex. The area is like a bowl with mountains all around. A beautiful place indeed, specially in summers. The lake freezes during January and February.
As the lake is located in the area between Ghulkin and Passu Glacier, routes lead to both these glaciers from Borith Lake. Worth a small visit and from here, one can hike up to Ghulkin or Passu Glaciers.

I was staying in Passu, Basically there is nothing much to do at the hotel. itching for some activities, we heard about a lake near Gulmit village. We got there by our own Honda CR- B. Our driver advised not to use our own car. There we saw the old 4 wheelers were lined up to take to the lake.
These are the locals, who make money by taking tourist to lake., These drivers will demanding 5000 rupees for less than 10 minutes ride for no more than 3 KM rocky road.. After some haggling 3000 agreed. When we got to the lake, we then realized it is nothing like lake. It is just a large pond, water is full of sulfur and other minerals oozing from the ground and that makes it smell and it is lifeless. Nothing lives in it. The price to take us there was too excessive . It should have been no more than 1500 rupees. Place is not worth the visit. These is nothing to see.

Borith lake is not a famous site but the one whoever is visiting Hunza should explore it. The trek is for a four wheeler but of one vehicle at a time & has a lot of twists & turns before one reaches there. Can spend sometime over there. Found it better than Satpara lake.

We were blessed with very nice autumn weather when we got there last month, on the way to Passu glacier. The lake is not too much special but we love the stroll along the lakeside in that windy morning. The lake is surrounded by majestic ranges of mountains. There is a vast reed field which turned yellow brown in the autumn and many birds flying over the ripples. We could really feel the spirit of freedom while we wandered along this lake.
