The Kruje castle is highlighted to be visit but for me a big disappointment. To be honest not much to be seen. Entrance free. Inside the castle is the you can visit the National Skanderberg Museum 500 lek / 5€ which is more like mausoleum then museum or ethnographic museum (now currently closed). The castle site not vast. You can see it in 20 minutes and discover 16 meters high watch tower from which you have a nice view of the area and the city Medieval Haman or Turkish bath, but the building was closed. The Dollmës shrine can be found close to the Turkish bath, with additional entrance but the building is in terrible condition not safe to step in. In front of the shrine’s doors, on the sacred grounds, is a large olive tree planted on the day of Skanderbeg’s wedding.

Compared to other castles in the region and we saw several in our 14 day tour of Albania, this one does not have too much to offer. Access is free but it comprises mainly restaurants and a large museum which we didn't view. Most of the historical buildings are not accessible and in a poor state of repair following a 2019 earthquake. There are some reasonable views and there is access to shops in a bazaar but other castles offer much more.

The Albanian people are identified with the history of Kruje Castle. This castle is one of the most visited places in Albania. Within the fortress is located one of the main attractions, the National Museum "George Castroti Skanderbeg" (Muzeu Kombetar "Gjergj Kastrioti Skenderbeu" in Albanian). This museum was built in early 1980s by architects Pranvera Masha and Pirro Vaso. Inside the museum a lot of original bibliography, documents, objects and authentic reproductions that represent the history of Albanian people in the fifteenth century are displayed. This museum has become an icon of the city's skyline. But when we were there we look inside the castle was a beautiful place a monument place were so interesting for me and my family, friends.
The history were so heroic.

Located within an hour drive from Tirana and also there is bus service from Tirana to Kruja. There are just Castle remains today and 2 museums in the within the fortress boundary with small entry fees to both the museum. Its interesting to know the history and the views from the top are lovely. There are couple of restaurants as well.

While same can be reached by vehicle [there are hotels and restaurants on top], it is more atmospheric to approach it through the old bazaar. You can see for miles around from the top. The principal attraction is the Skanderbeg Museum, honouring the legendary hero of Albania. The Ethnographic Museum was under renovation when I was there. The tower is also undergoing some renovations. Only ruins are left of the castle. Whether for a visit, a museum, a drink, a meal or a stay, the castle has something for everyone.

It can be easily done in half a day from Tirana. Bus leave from north south bus terminal which you can get city bus marks Kazim( white bus from central station behind Skanderbeg square) to the north/south bus terminal. And the bus is hourly and takes about 1h.
It’s a cute town with old bazar leads toward the castle. Castle itself is free if you want to walk around.

The Krujë Castle (Albanian: Kalaja e Krujës) is a castle in the city of Krujë, Albania and the center of Skanderbeg's rebellion against the Ottoman Empire.

It thanks nclydes the sites like the National Skanderbeg Museum, the remains of the Fatih Sultan Mehmed mosque and its minaret, an ethnographic museum and a Turkish bath.
It’s worth the visit you will need about 2 to 3 hours to see everything

One of the most important part of Albanian history displayed in this museum. My family enjoyed every little bit of the information presented. Such a beautiful view from the top of the mountain. Not much of the old castle left which is understandable. We have visited other castles and historical places in Albania and this one is a must. The entrance is 500 leke..

Not loads to see, most of the castle is in ruins with only some restored. The museum in the newer building is interesting and has a great viewpoint to look down towards Tirana and the coast.
The flower beds were very beautiful and vibrant, but wouldn't plan a visit just for these.

It has been a great experience since it's a middival castle, with extender restoration and with artifacts, home to Albania's father and grate hero Skanderbeg. Its natural fortification from the south and the high altitude gives you the opportunity to admire unparalleled views. Its definitely a worthy visit.
