We had done tastings at Vivac's tasting room in Santa Fe but this was our first time at the actual winery. The setting is beautiful and service was very accommodating. We had a Living Social coupon that we had a lot of trouble accessing because of the WiFi in the remote location. We got two flights so we could both try a large variety, then a glass each and a bottle of our choice. The wines were all very enjoyable and the table in the shade was comfortable in spite of the heat. The only down side was the two guys that sat at a table near us to have a beer, chain-smoking the entire time. There was not enough distance because we were downwind from them so we were forced to breathe the second hand smoke. That kind of ruins the tasting, but I guess the laws in Santa Fe are the problem.

Thank you for your visit and for taking the time to post about your experience. We are happy to see that despite some challenges, you had a wonderful time! We have free WiFi that staff should have alerted you to, that can be so frustrating to try to pull something up on your phone in the hills of Dixon and not be able to. We now have signs posted for the WiFi to avoid this. As to the guys smoking on the patio, what a bummer! We have signs asking people to step into the parking lot, but obviously we needed to be enforcing this a little better at the time of your visit. We apologize for that experience, how awful to try to taste wines like that! We will make sure to stay on top of that better. Thank you again for your visit, we hope to see you again soon!

Great wines from the higher altitudes of New Mexico. The wines are award-winning. The tasting room staff is knowledgeable and friendly. I did a tasting of estate wines and they were so fruit-forward with a crisp acidity that made the flavors dance across the palate. Also, handmade chocolates that are out of this world AND handmade pastas.

Terrible attitude. We had a coupon for wine tasting for 2 from Groupon for $22. The first thing Kate tried was declaring that the coupon was not valid anymore, although the coupon clearly stated: this coupon will never expire. After this she declared that they where not doing the wine tasting anymore but we could each get one glass of wine. Very bad deal. When we were ready to leave she still tried to get us to pay because she did not know how to handle the coupon. My advise, don’t ever go there. They will try to take advantage of you wherever they can.

Yikes! This is a very unfortunate experience indeed! Being that it was 2020 (please forgive the delayed response!) we did run into issues with previously setup tasting procedures not being possible. This case sounds like we missed an important part of training for this staff person. In 2020 things were constantly changing and how we handled things was in flux. That doesn't forgive your frustrating experience though. We hope you will return, give us another chance, and see how wonderful our place is and replace this poor memory with a good one!

We passed by this little winery on the High Road to Taos, and decided to stop. It was just charming! BEcause of covid, they had to serve their wine tasting through a window, but that didn't diminish the experience. Katie, our server, was warm, upbeat and very helpful, and she prepared a lovely flight of wines for us to try. Sitting in their patio surrounded by beautiful hills, vineyards and nice breezes was really relaxing, and it made us enjoy their wines even more. A really nice experience to recommend to other travellers through Dixon, NM

We expected this winery to be more of a tourist destination than legitimate winery but we were so wrong! We belong to multiple wine clubs and were shocked and delighted by how good the red wines were here. We did three tastings so that we could try almost all of the reds. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the patio is so relaxing and surrounded by wonderful views of the vineyard and surrounding mountains. We even stopped on our way out to buy additional bottles to bring back to Arizona. I would highly recommend this winery to anyone in the area.

AVOID AT ALL COST!
The hostess provided me and my husband with dirty glasses consisting of lipstick stains TWICE. The wines weren't anything special or to write home about. The icing on the cake was almost stepping on a family of mice near the entrance of the tasting room which made me realize that this place doesn't take workplace hygiene very seriously.
Very disappointed!!

This is a truly terrible story! We have a strong belief in how much the glass makes a difference in the tasting which is why we serve in Riedel glasses. Each glass should be polished before serving so hearing that it was funky not once, but twice is distressing. We are also horrified by your seeing "a family of mice"! We do live in the rural mountains of northern NM, but that is just unacceptable. We have natural predators that usually keep pests at bay, but we are also absolutely committed to hygiene and a clean environment for staff, guests and our wines. We greatly apologize for your experience and hope you will give us another chance to impress! As you will see from many many other reviews, your experience is definitely not the norm.

Dont waste your money at this place, the owner is rude, and very disrespectful. The only thing good about this place is the local beer they have on tap, which is not their own. Drive 8 miles north to black Mesa winery for an awesome experience. I have gone to this location 3 times, trying to give them business. I will never again go back !

This review makes us so sad! We apologize profusely that you had anything but a wonderful experience with one of us 4 owners. Unfortunately bad days do happen to good people, that is not at all an excuse for your poor experience, but we hope that you will rethink stopping by again.
We are proud to offer 14 taps of local craft beers from NM Brewers because we do not make beer; this option gives guests the best of both worlds. We are glad that you are a passionate fan of Black Mesa Winery, they are good friends and we love hearing that you are trying to send people their way. We hope you will consider giving us another try and change your perception of us.

This winery is located between Taos and Santa Fe. Prior to our NM visit, I had researched the wine as a potential visit because the wines are made from grapes grown in New Mexico. That is my preference when tasting within a state. Our visit was in the afternoon on a weekday; a plus for us was a 15% discount on bottle purchases through our hotel.
The tasting room server was pleasant and did a good job of serving everyone as late afternoon traffic began to build. She was not, however, well-informed about the wine's details. So I gleaned what limited info she had to offer, and proceeded to taste. Varietals tasted included Chenin Blanc, Dry Riesling, Sangiovese, Refosco, Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon. All of the wines were decent, but there was not enough difference there to buy anything but the most inexpensive varietals. So I purchased Chenin Blanc and Sangiovese, both vintage 2015 and priced at $16 per bottle.
Despite a 4-bottle purchase of 2 whites and 2 reds, the tasting fee of $8 was not waived. When I purchase at least 2 bottles, my expectation is a fee waiver. Enough said.
After about 4:30 pm, the tasting room became very busy between locals stopping in for a glass of wine and a wedding party there for the next day's ceremony. The noise level and crowding within the tasting room and on the patio outside became an unpleasant distraction. Not within control of the winery, but it was a negative.
Next time, we will avoid a later afternoon visit. But if a policy to waive fees is adopted, I would purchase the Chenin Blanc and Sangiovese again if quality is similar.

Wow, thank you for this comprehensive review! A lot has changed since 2017 (forgive the lack of response until now) and we hope that it is reflected not only in the caliber of wines (several in the 90's from Wine Spectator's wine critic James Suckling) as well as awards from International Wine Competitions around the world. We are also hoping you will see a much more informed staff as that is a big part of our customer experience. We hope you will stop by again and let us wow you this time.

After having read the many positive reviews on Trip Advisor, seeing the beautiful photos, and reading the descriptions of their wines, I was really looking forward to visting Vivac. What a disappointment our visit turned out to be. The setting is lovely. No problem there. The customer service, however, was nonexistent. The young woman behind the bar was completely disinterested (the word hostile comes to mind)and unhelpful (basically occupied by her telephone). She actually seemed rather bored (we were the only customers there at the time) or even disturbed by our intrusion. Before our arrival, I had been thinking a pairing with chocolate or cheese might be fun to try. We were offered neither, and based on her complete lack of enthusiasm, I decided to drop the idea. The situation might have been saved had we been excited by the wines. Unfortunately, we were not.

Oh no!!! That is horrible! Of course you weren't falling in love with the wines having had that experience. Wine is often subjective to the atmosphere and it sounds like the staff member that was in charge of creating a wonderful experience for you, dropped the ball. That said, she is no longer with us and we have made considerable improvements and hope that you will give us another try. Our wines have been winning International awards and we think you will have a much improved visit. Cheers!
