Very disappointed. The only thing here are country roads to drive down, the main center was closed, mid summer, morning around 10:30. We drove around the one lake you could get close too. No walking paths, no one around to help, not much to see...More

This is, after all, a refuge for the birds - it is not a zoo. So one should not be surprised that the birds are quite far from the road and paths. We did see hundreds of sandhill cranes on Oct 19, 2017. We spoke...More

I did see a large group of deer. The reservoir had some common water birds in mid-November. There were a few other people there. This is really out in the middle of nowhere. A nice place for a walk.

This is a pretty good place for bird watching. There is a prairie dog colony with Burrowing Owls, and a few Grasshopper Sparrows along one of the roads.

I've only been here in winter, but it's still a beautiful spot. There are a lot of raptors. Eagles, hawks, merlin!

I stopped by here on the way home after a day of exploring the northeast corner of New Mexico. The visitor's center is only open Monday-Friday so I grabbed some info they had available outside and found the picnic/camping area by Lake 13. I had...More

Drove thru here on a Sunday morning and spotted deer, jack rabbits and the oh so cute prairie dogs. Hardly saw any people. I recommend going during the week when the visitor center is open as that would help find where to go. Theres a...More

The visitor's center was closed due to work they had to do out in the field. I got a map from the display case outside the center. Drove to the one lake that was actually filled with water. Really just drove around and saw some...More
