This is an important, albeit controversial and uncomfortable part of our history, but however you feel about it, I’m sure you’ll appreciate the beauty of this church. It’s austere and sits grand upon a hill, towering above town. It’s most unique features are the imagery...More

St. Joseph's is one of the most amazing and stunning beautiful churches that I have ever seen. The Apache Christ is in back of the alter looking out to all of the parish. All of the paintings are in the likeness of Apaches. They are...More

Easy to get to, right off an exit from Hwy 70 in Mescalero (Hwy 70 runs right through the Mescalero Apache reservation, between Ruidoso & Alamogordo). Since moving W several years ago, one of our favorite things to do when we visit new areas is...More

I really appreciate older buildings, especially those that have been maintained. This church is beautiful both outside and in and the preservation work shows. I went in the early morning and it was really quiet, perfect time to reflect.

I am not an expert about old churches, but this was a neat place to visit. Free entrance. Set within the Apache nation, this is an old church that clearly met the people "where they are". For instance, next to a statue of Mary and...More

Easy to get to. Steps leading up to the church are steep but there is s drive around to the rear. Inside-awesome when comparing to the limited funds and manpower for the times. Truly worth the side trip.

I like taking pictures of old churches. Have visited Santa Fe, Mesa and Mesilla for the churches. It is worth stopping and going inside for pictures.

It sits on top of a hill. Nice building, but nothing really to see. Just an Indian church. Looking inside for 5 min is all you want, if that much.

This church was built by Father Albert Braun, an incredible priest that served as an Army Chaplain during both the First and Second War, and was a POW. His greatest love was the Apache People. It took 16 years to restore this church to its...More
