Wonderfully located lake at end of the valley with superb views and easy walk round the lake or easy access to choice of hiking trails. Streams for little ones to play in and cafe and restaurant close by.

This rather beautiful lake was a little bit dry this December, but we used it as departure point for our hike in its surroundings. Easily accessible by road, lovely spot for all the family, even the little ones can walk around the lake and have a nice day, surrounded by the clouds and by the steep slopes.

This is an easy flat walk around a lake which takes about an hour. We went in October and no café facilities were open. There is a toilet. The walk can be extended by going up into the mountains on marked trails. This was the best bit for us as the walk was slightly uphill and a little more interesting.... More

We spent about an hour here relaxing and taking in the scenery. There are wild horses and cows in the distance which made it even more special in terms of feeling as if your in the middle of no where. You get a lot of tourists visiting but it does not spoil the experience.

We spent a lovely couple of hours here. We picnicked next to the lake and then spent an hour wandering around it. We didn't try the restaurant but wonderful setting next to the lake and surrounded by mountains.

Amazing place, and very restful. Restaurant at the lake (adjoining the shop) doesn't look anything special, but cannot comment as we didn't eat there, but everything else makes for a lovely day out with great walking.

Camped at the Pyrenees Natura site for 3 nights which was excellent and worth the top of the range fees. Walked a section of the GR10 towards Lac Ilheou and the next day heading in the National Parc des Pyrenees. Hotel Restaurant du Lac d'Estaing highly recommended for meals (awaiting listing to do review).

The Lac d'Estaing is an excellent base for hiking. We stayed there for our day hikes into the high country of the Grand Barbat and above the Lac du Tech. We spent 3 nights at the Hotel-Restaurant du Lac d'Estaing, and it was our favorite of all the hotels we used on our 2013 vacation. Dinners were delicious, featuring regional... More
