Some of the reviews suggest this is an easy hike. That might be true for experienced hikers or for those more in shape. I don't fit either of those categories. I am moderately overweight and don't get a lot of exercise, plus I live at...More

Moderate hike, which ascends gently first through a smallish section of forest thinned for fire safety (not the most aesthetic but don't worry, this part is short) then intact forest. The trail ends at the lake, surrounded by high peaks.

Not much more than 4 miles round trip, moderately easy trail. Gets to about 11100 ft elevation and provides scenic view of Wheeler Peak, New Mexico's highest.

I did this hike today as part of the Wheeler Peak hike, stopping at the lake first with my dogs for ascending. The trail was busy! And once at the lake, saw tenters and dogs in all directions. The lake is low right now, but...More

Whew, straight up for 2 miles on rocky terrain was tough fro flatlanders and the trip down was tough on the knees. I could sit by the river on the way up all day!

This is a relatively short pretty hike to a nice lake surrounded by mountains. It's two miles one way with about 900 feet of elevation gain. Everyone and their dog, especially their dog, is on the trail. The parking area was very crowded on a...More
