The Adirondack Experience, The Museum on Blue Mountain Lake will be open for its 60th anniversary season on Friday, May 26, 2017. The museum is open daily, including holidays, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., through Monday, October 9, 2017. Begin your Adirondack adventure with a visit to the Adirondack Experience. A regional museum of history and art, the Adirondack Experience's 24 buildings and exhibitions are situated on 121 acres, offering spectacular mountain and lake views. The museum's extensive collections give visitors the opportunity to experience how people have lived, worked, traveled and played in the Adirondacks since the 1800s. Exhibit themes include: boats and boating, land transportation, outdoor recreation, the environment, logging, rustic traditions, fine arts, and tourism. Something new and exciting is in store for our 60th anniversary! The 19,000-square-foot " Life in the Adirondacks" will be a fully immersive, interactive exploration of the Adirondack Park and its people. Interactive discovery centers and hands-on activities abound throughout the museum, making the museum a fun place for families with children to play and learn. Watch the Boat Builder in Residence construct a traditional Adirondack guideboat, take part in a workshop, feed the trout, or participate in a school field trip. Services at the Adirondack Experience include the Lake View Cafe, open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, overlooking pristine Blue Mountain Lake. Picnic areas are scattered throughout the grounds. Be sure to visit the ADKX Store in the Visitor Center for a variety of Adirondack related gifts. Allow 2 - 3 hours for a relaxing visit.

You could easily allocate several hours to enjoy the many facets of this museum. We had limited time and chose the logging industry, railroad and carriage era and rustic furnishing exhibit buildings. All had excellent representations and an abundance of historical depictions and explanations. Well worth the time.

Such a beautiful spot and the trees had not even turned yet. Museum relatively new, with great displays and information. We were there in Sept. The weather was spectacular and the view of Blue Lake is amazing. Great for families as they had interactive displays for kids. We learned a lot about the settling and growth of the area. If... The Adirondack Museum is a great family attraction. There are many buildings with local history with many hands on items for children as well as adults alike. Although the ticket was a 2 day pass we were able to see it all in one day.

This is a stop that is well worth the time. Beautiful views of the lake from the Café! Lots of buildings to go in and look and learn about the region. Should have several hours to spend here.

We go to Blue Mountaim Lake yearly on business where we participate in an antique show at the Adirondack Museum. Since we are there for four days, we have the opportunity to visit the museum displays. They are fantastic and well worth a trip to the area. They give you a real sense of what life was and is like... More

Wear good walking shoes and plan to spend several hours at this museum. The exhibits are divided into topics and housed in separate buildings within the complex. Bring the kids as there are kid friendly activities in each area. The cafe on the grounds serve sandwiches, soup and salads. We had chicken salad which was very good. The dining area... More

Even if you like museums just a little bit, this one will engage and stimulate you. Spread over a multi-acre campus, the museum addresses, in some great detail, Adirondack history, culture and technology. You can learn as much as you want, and go as deep as you wish, before you move on. Some of the (outlandishly decorated!) buildings have been... More

This is a top notch museum. Covers all facettes of the Adirondacks area. We especially enjoyed the boat area of the museum. The furniture and buildings are great. Well worth the price of admission. Also lucky enough to be on the week of the Antiques vendors. They had great stuff to sell. .

If you like history and trying to understand why people in the past came to this place and how people lived in this very cold part of America, then you must see this excellent. I am not a boater but their history of kayaks and canoes and then up to the beautiful mahogany speed boats was very interesting. Also, it... More

We had not planned to go to the museum, but the woman we rented a cabin from highly recommended it. So, on a rainy day, we decided to visit. What a very pleasant surprise! There are 20+ buildings, each with great exhibits and interesting history, stories and photos or videos. This day was one of the highlights of our visit.
