Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum, with its splendid Greek Revival interiors, is tucked away in a lovely, quiet corner of Pelham Bay Park - an area that was once home to more than 20 elegant country estates. As the only grand country house still in existence on Pelham Bay, it provides an important link to the social and architectural history of New York. Visitors are welcome to take a guided tour of the mansion and view our impressive collection of mid-19th century furnishings and fine and decorative arts. Or stroll around the grounds and the formal terraced garden behind the house.

Old Memories

Unfortunately we arrived as the house was closing. We toured the grounds and the outside of the mansion. Still a very special spot and worthy of a longer visit on my next trip/

This is a lovely place hidden in the Bronx a true gem. You will see deer, rabbits hawks and even turkey. It's a quite tranquil place in the boarder of the Bronx and the suburbs.

This was a long trip by subway and bus but well worth it. I found the staff to be fantastic at explaining the history, life and times of this unique treasure. The grounds are wonderful as are the outbuildings and other sights. Kudos to the dedicated staff.

When Robert Moses chopped up this part of the Bronx, this federal mansion was spared. It's a federal mansion, furnished originally and historically accurate. The grounds contain a wig wam, wonderful gardens and a small cemetery hidden in the woods.

While we were visting Pelham Bay Park with our adult daughter, we decided to take a tour of the Bartow-Pell Mansion. We would rate it as interesting but not particularly outstanding in any way. Fine to include as part of a trip, but not a stand-alone location. Perhaps part of the problem was that our guide appeared to be rather... More

Today, my husband and I visited the Bartow-Pell mansion with the NYBG tour for members. It was such a lovely experience. The mansion is dressed in holiday grandeur. There were eight Christmas trees decorated with ornaments aligned with the theme of corresponding children's books. They were so beautiful and festive. The staff was very knowledgeable about the history of the... More

I had the good fortune of visiting on an autumn day full of color and glory. The grounds are magnificent and the house itself was a beauty restored. Our guide, Ms. Lambdin was outstanding and even took us to the carriage house as part of the tour. It was the end of the 100th anniversary celebration. I definitely would recommend... More
