Overview
More
The Norwood museum showcases the body of work from John Norwood, a local artist who makes art out of every day discarded items. His collection spans numerous disciplines and materials. The museum has two locations, each with about 8,000 sqft of gallery space. The primary location sits on Flushing Bay with sweeping views of the bay, LaGuardia Airport, and the Manhattan skyline. The other location is on Main St, College Point, and houses much of John's earlier work. It is recommended that you visit both locations/collections. Keep in mind the, the waterfront location is also a private residence, but John and his wife are very open and welcoming to having you visit. Please visit by Appointment Only and then explore as long as you like. John Norwood attended the Art Institute of Chicago and also worked with renowned architect IM Pei. If you are interested in abstract expressionism, modern art, and what a talented artist can do with upcycling, then plan a trip to this art museum.

I go to the Norwood Museum any time I find myself in College Point, visiting friends. John and Ruby are such a great couple and the work itself is far reaching and oftentimes overwhelming. Older, more formal and stylized pieces give way to, and inform,...More

This museum is owned and run by John Norwood and his wife Ruby. The only thing more interesting than their art is their experiences. Truly one of the hidden gyms of NYC.

Such interesting artwork reflecting years of John's work in which commonly found objects come together in fascinating ways. I especially like the silver painted montages that look like futuristic, post-apocalyptic cities.
