Lovely in Places, But A Bit Shambolic And Not Covid Safe
Oct 2021 • Family
We took a trip to Peak Wildlife Park today, as a half term treat with our youngest.

Firstly it was packed, we had booked a time slot, but by the time we had got down the queue to get in (in the pouring rain) it was well past the allocated time. This didn’t seem to affect anything, I’m not sure they were over booking time slots or people just turned up, but it was too busy to be safe with social distancing.

The highlight of the park, for us was feeding the wallabies and being able to get close to them. We also loved being able to watch the lemurs and the meerkats up close.

However, the one way system is very confusing, with “be way” signs in all directions! People were obviously trying their best to follow them, but like us, found themselves wandering in circles! Being busy, it meant that we were constantly crossing past people coming in the opposite direction, with no where to safely pass, so social distancing was right out of the window! To make matters worse, the penguin walk past leads you directly in to an enclosed tunnel, to observe underwater. There’s no alternative but to walk through it and it was packed! Total lack of common sense from both customers and the management who have laid the route.

There were one or two empty enclosures and a fair few animals were hiding from the rain, so we didn’t see everything. That’s just one of those things, although we were really disappointed not to see the otters, as that had been the thing we had been looking forward to the most. In addition to this, there was a visibly sick penguin in the enclosure. We looked for a keeper to ask about it, but none was to be found. Also the alpacas were being marched about on a lead, so we were unable to spend time just watching them, which we would have liked.

All in all it’s not a bad place, but it is a bit hit and miss, I think and for that, it is perhaps a little bit expensive for what it is. We didn’t have food, it looked like very basic catering, for gourmet prices and the cost of drinks put us off enough to wait until we left!

Great walk through enclosures.
Sep 2021
Not ever such a big park but it is well laid out the animals have plenty of room. The big draw is the number of walk through enclosures they have so you can get up really close to the animals i think the penguin one would normally be the best, however on the day we visited only the pool at the top of the enclosure was full probably due to cleaning, so they were all congregated in one place, still really enjoyed the visit the staff all seemed cheerful and friendly and were happy to answer questions.

Had an amazing time today at the park, park is well maintained and the staff handling the animals are very attentive and knowledgeable about them. You can tell they care a lot about them. Even walking around, staff were super friendly and greeted you as you walk around the park.

Well looked after animals. We were lucky enough to experience the wallaby feeding where we got to get up close and personal petting and feeding them and even had some lemurs climb onto our shoulders! Thank you again for a wonderful experience ♥️

Red squirrels
Sep 2021
A return visit and they have gained more animals and opened more sites. Loved the red squirrel walk that you could go in and interact with the squirrels. Such cheeky chappies. You can also walk in with the lemurs, wallabies, penguins, hens, goats, sheep and rabbits. Feeding times are back so got to hear a bit more about the animals. If you get there early enough you can see the kune kune pigs being walked. We're a couple without kids and spent a lovely 5 hours there. Managed to stroke a wallaby. Lots of places to sit and stand and enjoy watching the animals. Good food. Animals all seem very happy and engaged.

A great day out - I will be visiting again for sure!!

Well that was a lovely day out; I thoroughly enjoyed it 😁👍👌 I was given a ticket as a birthday present from husband and daughter and I was not disappointed. The park is kept clean and tidy (that includes the toilets). The staff are friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable about the animals they care for. Lots to see and do; I particularly loved walking through the red squirrel, lemur and wallaby enclosures. We fed the sika deer some willow browse, supervised by the keeper. The meerkats are brilliant, as are the penguins. There's also zebra, sheep, goats and giant rabbits!! I felt all the animals looked well care for, with their needs met. I bought a packed lunch and flask so can't comment about the food on offer, but what I saw others eating looked really good. In all, I spent over 5 hours here. The ticket is very good value. Although I was on my own, I could see there was a section of the park particularly suited for families with young children, but all ages are catered for in my opinion. There are some graduated slopes (which could be a bit of a challenge if frail??) but the vast majority of paths are 'smooth' to help with wheelchairs and buggies/prams. Plenty of benches and picnic tables across the entire park. I will definitely be revisiting in the spring. I highly recommended this park for a fun and relaxing day out.

Good for a quick stop off
Sep 2021 • Couples
As adults with no children who love visiting animal parks, it was okay for a quick stop off but we have definitely been to better.

There weren't really too many animals to see. We were aware from the website that its more like a walk through with animals place than a zoo, but there definitely felt like a lack of animals- e.g. the squirrel walk through had 1 squirrel. The one way systems were confusing, we heard a lot of people commenting on this.

We liked that you could touch the animals and most were happy to be touched. We also liked the funny signage, the enclosures were spacious and the staff were friendly, food in the cafe was great!

It's probably better if you have children, and it looks like they were expanding to include more animals, but we probably won't go again for a while.
