Before the railways were built, ships sailed inland as far as Shardlow. Torksey Lock was the scene of much activity as ships and shallow bottomed barges called ketches passed through. Today it is still a working river but now better known as a wonderful place to spot wildlife, perfect for a visit with the kids.

Interesting little lock in the middle of nowhere. Adjacent to Torksey village. Good parking with lovely little tea room. Pub close by serving food. Run down tow path for short distance that leads to a raised turf walkway running adjacent to canal. Tow path not suitable for disabled users. No evidence of public toilets other than in cafe or pub.... More

We arrived by boat via The Trent on one of the lowest tides for a very long time yesterday only to find there were already a lot of boats waiting to enter the lock. The tide had been so low that there was insufficient water to get over the cill. The lock keeper was monitoring the situation very closely and... More

A nice small walk down Torksey lock, there was a small tea room with reasonable prices but unreasonable staff members.

We often pass Torksey Lock on our travels, and make a point of stopping by for coffee and cake. These are home-made and exceedingly good- and the sausage rolls are excellent, too. Sometimes the wasps outside can be a nuisance but it's a very good place for a pit stop. We have never had anything but a warm welcome and... More

Why travel past Torksey Lock? Stop by and relax by the canal and watch the boats go through the lock. Call at Torksey Tea Rooms and try Zan's lovely home made cakes. They are delicious.

Plus there wa DVD , books and jigsaws for sale. I liked the idea that you can swop your jigsaws with there selections. So we be defiantly... More

The welcome and the tea here are terrific but the cakes are exceptional, home made, both traditional and imaginative are available and some change daily. Proper china, milk in jugs and sugar in bowls, it is a REAL tea shop and not to be missed or passed by. We love to take friends there and they always enjoy it, have... More
