The mines let you look around and dig for diamonds and sometime you find great ones to take home as well.

It takes a real effort to get a Herkimer diamond from the fields. I suggest buying the sack of dirt (with a few small diamonds inside) and pan for the diamonds. Still fun.More

Went to the Herkimer Diamond Mines and looked around. Great place for kids. Probably fun and educational for them. And I'm sure there are some adults who like that kind of activity are are interested in rocks.

This was a fabulous place to spend 2 days as a family- mining and sluicing. The gems are lovely, the experience is fun and inexpensive and very educational for kids.

I had always wanted to get my own "diamonds" at the Herkimer Diamond Mines and was not disappointed. Hard work but worth the effort. Love my "diamonds". Hubby and I plan on returning next year.

Best way to determine your distance and travel time is with Google maps. Very useful app for road travellers.
