What a fun place to visit. It is rustic and not fancy, but I found some Herkimer Diamond and had a really great time. I rented equipment in the store and it wasn't too expensive and I tried my hand a panning and smashing rocks....More
On this year's trip to Old Forge we decided to try some diamond mining in Herkimer. We went to the Ace of Diamond mines. This was a good place for my 2 year old grandson to just sit and bang on some rocks for awhile....More
Thank god for places like this. For $10 you can spend the whole day here hunting for crystals. It can be hard work but I found literally hundreds over the course of three days. Most were small (dime sized) but I found several golf ball...More
This is the only place I have mined for Herkimers and it definitely is NOT a tourist trap. The folks who run the mining operation/store can be a little gruff which may put some off who are looking for a friendly atmosphere. But, they are...More

Tool rental 1$ per tool.
Several different areas to mine...recently excavations piled up daily....lower level and up higher levels, pile of gravel you sift through ( very productive in terms of diamond finds)...More
We Tried both Ace of Diamonds and the KOA Herkimer Diamond Mines up the street. The KOA mine was definitely cleaner and more friendly but the prices were higher. The kids loved the sluice but it was $12 a bag that took 5 minutes at...More
There really aren't any tips you just really have to have a lot of time to look over everything. We had 2 small children with us so we didn't spend as much time there as we could have but we did find a few small " diamonds "
