Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Not an island of any standard if you’ve been to good islands. Murky water, ultra commercialised by MSC, NOTHING to do other than few basic water sports. Seems to have been chosen because it’s the only island MSC can monopolise.

I have been on at least 8 cruises, starting when Starlight cruises first came to our shores. I love cruising, love the vibe, the food, the entertainment and just the value for money.
However, this last cruise on the 19th February to 23rd to February 2024 to the Island of Pomene wasn't to be as"apparently the weather wasn't conjusive for us to stop on the island". I am sure that this was not so, as straight afterwards the itiniariary notices for the following day were for the Portugese Isand that very same evening, which they have done to death. Also, when I disembarked very early on the island, there were hundreds of vendors on the beach. How did they get to know the ship was coming to the Island with such short notice. Also, the one receptionist make a mistake when asked about Pomene, even before the announcement had been made that we were going to the Portugese Island. I feel as if this time I have been scammed and I don't appreciate it. I will be investigating it and will definitely be taking it to task to find out the truth behind the change so conveniently for the ship to not travel to the Pomene Island. I have done the Portugese island many times and was really looking forward to another change of scenary. My husband passed away recently and we loved to cruise, so I took it upon myself to do one again, one my own.
Anyone else feeling the same sentiment??????

Beautiful island and the locals are so friendly. One of the few places in the world that is untamed. Took the most beautiful photos and enjoyed the trip with my sister.

We went on the Msc Orchestra from Durban to Pomene from 4-8 April 2022. Everything was spectacular and amazing, except for the food that was very mediocre. Not oncewas there a serving of red meat in any shape, form or size. We had fish daily and chicken every second day. The vegetables were very weak and bland. Pizzas were freshly baked but had no mozarella cheese, only a light sprinkling of finely grated hard cheese and no meats on them. Soup was tasteless. No salad dressing available

Stunning island. There is no doubt about that! Anyone who has visited will say the same.
No residents on the island which make for a tranquil and peaceful trip. Beautiful white sand and clear waters.
We were lucky enough to freedive and spearfish off the point of the island where it drops off to deep water and catch a beautiful kingfish.
The island is also ideal for a bonfire at night if staying over and the wind is calm.

The Portuguese Island is beautiful- warm water to swim and miles of beach. It is very crowded once the whole ship disembarks. Noisy with music and lots of partying. If this is not your thing - Book excursions to snorkel and visit Inhaca Island as this is much quieter and very beautiful. There are queues for everything with a fair amount of impatient people pushing etc I would definitely visit the Islands again but not on a cruise ship filled with folks who want to party. The islands are lovely - the facilities built by MSC are good. Sadly by the time we left the beaches were filled with trash from the visitors who left it exactly where they were sitting. The crew of the MSC Orchestra confirmed their ground team would collect it all and clean up the human impact. Take Rands or USD to purchase curios and locally made items - the islands inhabitants survive on tourism - so a good way to ensure we uplift the community.

We have just completed the MSC Orchestra cruise from Durban to Pomene.
On the positive side the ship is really comfortable and the cabins clean and neat. We had a rear balcony cabin. The food in the main restaurants is good and the buffet section on deck 13 has a large variety of choice. Plenty of bars and things to do. Pomene is a beautiful unspoilt area.
The huge crowds, queuing, pushing and shoving is something one has to get used to. On deck 13 at meal times its just a mass of people descending on the buffet with plates packed high with food and virtually no space to sit and enjoy the sea going by. There is not a quiet bar on the ship so no place to relax and enjoy a quiet chat. Avoid this cruise if you are looking for a relaxing and peaceful holiday. If you want lots of noise, hordes of people singing and dancing then this is for you. It has put us off MSC cruising.

How strict are they with the 6month passport validity? My son has 5 months and 1 week left on date of return. I do not know if we will receive his new passport before the cruise.
