We were told that the dunes were red due to the iron content, and our guide showed this iron content in the sand with a magnet. We climbed up the "arm" of the Big Daddy dune, which was surprisingly difficult because our feet sunk into...More

I've wanted to go here ever since I saw an amazing photo of Deadvlei. It was a trek to get here-- we flew into Windhoek and then drove about 4.5 hours to our hotel. About 3/4 of the drive is on gravel roads, but you...More

An amazing day experiencing the highest dunes in Namibia. The Park has reasonable roads but 4wd is essential for visiting Sossusvlei and Deadvlei. Best to go with a guide if not experienced at driving in sand. Take water, hat and shoes for climbing sand dunes....More

What an unforgettable experience!!! The camping at Sossus Oasis was brilliant, climbing dune 45 hard work but totally worth it and driving the sand road to Sossusvlei challenging and adrenalin pumping but great fun! Deadvlei was unbelievable!!! Something never to forget! Sesriem Canyon nearby is...More

This is by far one of the most impressive, unique and emotional places that I`ve visited. Dooievlei (Eng. Dead Vlei) just boggles the mind as the dead trees in the calcareous depression tell your mind that once there were an oasis with live trees, birds...More

What a wonderful place to visit! So many stunning sand dunes and vistas. When you are there, a climb to the top of sand dune 45 is a must... but get there early to avoid the heat as it is a bit of a climb.

Deadvlei....what an absolutely gooooorgeous & surreal place!!! Truly magical!!! Be sure to be early and would recommend going with your own 4x4 all the way if you can, so as not to get stuck hoping for a ride back. If your time / shedule is...More

Stunning views, amazing drive. Be sure to be there early when the gate opens, ideally you should stay inside the camp and be at the dead valley before sunrise to see the landscape change.

I agree about Swakopmund. It's a must. The roads from Swakop to Sossos is at the moment very bad, but to get there, you have to travel on the dirt, so be very careful. Book ahead of time otherwise you will be in trouble... More
