It is a very interesting church, part of a monastery. The church and convent of Santa Cruz was built in the 17th century. Build at the place of a historical battle that tha Spanirds won on the 25 July 1531 against the indians.

I am not 100% mobile but trudged in the afternoon heat to the location seen on the map. It is incorrect and on the completely wrong side of town as shown. By the time I struggled back to the centro it was closed (5:30 pm)....More

Enjoyed our visit; however thought the decorations were possibly a bit much. Also, we tend to get a little jaded seeing one church after another. Recommend/good.

Go through the doors and you will see the most incredible thing - floor to ceiling carved figurines, much of the walls painted in gold. It's totally opulent for the eyes. Take your time to see the detail.

Quite amazing to look at he baroque retablos and to try and undertand the skill needed to create, We no longer have craftsman that can do this work even with the quality of tools we now have.

Nice walk around the temple and its different "retablos" are breathtaking. A magnificnet example of Mexican Baroque architecture with the traditional gate for the clausus nuns that are no longer living in the facility.

The extravagance of the gold-laden Mexican baroque retablos may turn off those who do not understand the exuberant spiritualism of the period's Catholicism or those who wonder why such lavish art decorated a convent, but for art history buffs and devote Catholics, this interior is...More
