Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Take a concept - like "home" - and build an art exhibit around it. That's what we encountered at the Heckscher and we like the idea. Rather than build an exhibit around an artist, build the exhibit around a concept. The building is small, so your visit can be short, and we we found the works both varied and interesting. Displays are standard art museum style: mostly images on walls. Would we go back for another exhibit? Absolutely.

Huntington is a historical town on Long Island's North Shore. Hecksher Park is a family oriented place for kids and octogenarians alike. It has a great playground and a sizeable lake for leisurely walks. The bandstand houses nightly musical treats for all the family....bring your own chair, snacks and blanket. Inside the park is a little art museum which shows some of the great artworks, The show is ever changing and the admission is cheap for what you see. Hassam, Seurat, Chagall and many others can be seen here. Call ahead to learn about the art schedule. But when on the North Shore, don't miss it!

A little museum in the heart of Huntington, surrounded by a lovely park. While the museum was quite small and only took less than 1 hour to see every exhibit, the park was quite large and we spent a lovely afternoon strolling the path around the water and enjoyed watching the beavers and other critters enjoy the water.

One of 5 destinations planned for a full day on the North Shore of Long Island. (Sagamore Hill, Vanderbilt Museum, DaVino winery, Sunday Jazz brunch at
Prime) Interesting special exhibit and beautiful paintings in permanent collection. Unique area in entry area for children to sit and paint. Snacks served there. Pleasant visit .

The present management of this fine museum is an absolute disgrace . The present exhibit "In a New Light : American Impressionism 1870-1940" is a delight , and would be a treat in any major art museum , the Metropolitan included . However , the sponsor , Bank of America , should close it or demand a simple overhaul of this miniature Museum . Why ? THE SECURITY STAFF IS WORSE THAN USELESS ! I visited today ( 8-1-19) with my wife , and adult patrons routinely got right up to the artwork , within inches , with security guards doing nothing to interfere . Much worse , one young security guard , with an I-pod earpiece plugged in , kept walking in circles around the rooms , his jacket constantly getting within an inch of the paintings . Reminders from the front desk , which I informed , did no good ( he appeared to be high on something ) and he got into a loud argument with me when I reminded him of what he was being paid to do ( protect the priceless artwork ! ). At 64 , with a lifetime of enjoying art museums , never have I witnessed what I saw today . We ultimately walked out ; that's how disgusted we were . The sponsors of this exhibit will be informed as well !

This museum is small in size but large in quality. It's a nice respite after a walk around the pond in the park. The people here are helpful and friendly and answer all questions.

I visited Heckscher Museum of Art in Huntington yesterday and was surprised to have a world of American Impressionism opened up to me. We NYC art snobs believe the world rises and falls in Manhattan but this was a great little museum, Three galleries are filled with well curated and varied paintings with a knowledgeable docent on hand to provide additional information. Visit takes about an hour. Just hop on the LIRR to Huntington Station and take a 5 minute taxi ride to the museum. As a bonus the museum is located on a lake in Heckscher Park. You can take a pleasant stroll through the gardens. The town of Huntington is an easy walk from the museum and there are lots of restaurants and shops to frequent. A nice day out.

There is something about the ambience of the museum which is light and inviting.

The museum exhibits are divided between their current showing and their permanent collection (which is huge and diverse). The museum is small, so it's a great way to introduce children to a museum (don't forge the interactive paint set in the lobby).

If you're fortunate enough to be there when the docent is there, it's worth listening; super nice and knowledgeable

Of course the park is beautiful all year round, so take a stroll around the pond

Well curated special exhibits, notable permanent collection, easy parking, no crowds (like at MMA & MoMA).

This is a small museum on the grounds of Heckscher Park that has summer probramsd that are free and eclectic.

The museum has limitted space and a small collection but owrth a one time visit. GHo in fine weather to combine a stroll in the park and shooping on Huntington Villge Streets. A great combo. It's also good to know that Huntington Villge is filled with a cornicopia of fine and varied restaurants.
