Ithaca, New York6 contributions

What a pleasant surprise to find a high quality professional gallery with local artists here in upstate New York. Moreover the works shown here are superb. It made me realize you don't have to go to New York City to see exceptional art. The Gallery is just off the Commons across from the State Theater, easily reached if one is visiting the area and looking for something to do. Two artists are on display at the moment, David Watkins and James Spitznagel. David is well known locally for his photographs of flowers but surprises with a series showing the wonders of Acadia National Park. Interspersed with Davids photographs are the digitally created and brightly colored abstractions of James Spitznagel. What got my attention besides the bright colors is the fascinating arrangements and juxtapositions of shapes and textures. Extraordinary to say the least. Shows change each month so that one can find new and exciting work there at any time. Moreover State Of The Art is really the only walk in off the street professional gallery in downtown Ithaca and so, in my opinion, it is not to be missed when visiting Ithaca.
