The former bases located on Camp Hero State Park have a few remnants left behind as fascinating reminders of WWII and decades of Cold War. We enjoyed the tip of the park and the lighthouse, but I was specifically intrigued by the bunkers and the AN=FPS-35 Radar System, the only intact example of a large, frequency diversity radar in the... Off the beaten path and very peaceful, this spot is great for a short walk or exploration. The dock is also nice to walk out on. Great place to take the dogs too~

We visited Camp Hero State Park after our visit to Montauk Lighthouse. Our parking was free since we had already paid to park at the lighthouse. The views from the top of the cliffs is amazing! Lots of fishing boats, and great views of the lighthouse. We also wanted to see the Rough Riders area as well as the remains... More

Spent a couple of days in Montauk and most of the time hiking in Camp Hero. There are so many trails, coves, hidden roads to just wander around in. I love the outdoors so this place was perfect for a little solitude away from the city. A hidden gem, you can walk for hours and not see a soul.

Been coming to Montauk for 20+ years and just recently found this park, The views are amazing of the ocean. Park and walk or hike through the trails and you won't be disappointed with the great scenery.

Great hiking through property that once was a military post to guard the coast. Paths ramble through low vegetation, pass the former military installations (bunkers, a radar tower), and lead to stunning walks along the cliffs overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.

My husband wanted to go here & so glad we did. It was a beautiful day & really enjoyed the walk out to the overlook. WOW, what a beautiful view of the ocean. I couldn't help it, I sat down on the grass & just starred out to the sea, absolutely gorgeous! Probably not a good idea to look down... More

Camp Hero State Park boasts what is quite possibly the best view in all of Montauk with the most sublime photo opportunities imaginable. Here you can enjoy the ocean from a most rustic perspective: a deeply eroded cliff, with the iconic Montauk Lighthouse dutifully watching over the tireless and sometimes angry swell. Yes, it’s as poetic as it sounds. Camp... More

Winter or summer, this is a great place to walk and hike! You've got to watch an ocean sunset here! Or watch the surfers! The rocks that wash up on the beachfront are so unique you won't find two alike!

Amazing views of the lighthouse! If you are into photography, this is a place to go in Montauk - especially for sunrise and go,den hour photo ops... It offers a trail connection to the lighthouse nearby...
