The West Coast National Park is fantastic in October: we saw 16 young ostrich chicks and every flower was in bloom. It is very doable as a day trip from Cape Town. Price is reasonable, you can spend up three hours here easily.

Stunning scenery close to Cape Town. Wildflowers carpeted the ground. We saw zebra, a venomous puff adder crossing the road (thankfully from the safety of the car), tortoises crossing the track and an ostrich walking down the road! What an amazing day. Brilliant.
