Small but interesting

The sanctuary is small but interesting and something to support as it involves the local villagers and brings an income and educates them about preserving nature.

If you are visiting Jozani, it is easy to swing by the butterfly centre as well. The centre is really small, and there is not so much to see. Nevertheless, it is cheap, and they give farmers money for brining in the eggs. They might even let you hold some butterflies.

This is an income generating project to help the local villagers. Pupae are bred (in amazing gold colours) and sold to butterfly gardens and collectors over the world You walk in an area which is closed of by nets full of flowers while butterflies flutter around in amazing numbers and colours. Highly recommended. It takes no more than half an... More

We stopped by this place in June 2016 while driving back to Stone Town from Jozani Bay National park. It was worth a visit. Our three and half year old kid had a great time observing butterflies from a close distance for the first time ever. The introduction to the butterfly life cycle and the curated walk inside the butterfly... More

I have always been fascinated by butterflies and was so happy to stop at ZBC. Alfred did a good job with the tour and information. And I got some really good pictures. This is one of the things you do on the way to or fro another thing in Zanzibar.

This is a 40 min drive from Stone Town. It was worth the drive. We were informed about the project, and the life cycle of butter flies. The we we strolling in the butterfly garden for two hours. IT is a good opportunity for photographing.

This is an excellent local initiative and hope this will continue and expand in the near future. The children enjoyed the butterflies. The guide spoke English well and explained the life cycle of the butterfly with visual resources well.

If you're on the way to Jozani Forest or The Rock restaurant it's definitely worth a visit. It's quite small and you won't spend too much time there, but there are lots of beautiful butterflies and it supports local farmers who participate in farming butterflies.

This is very close to the Jozani monkey forest so if you're not staying in the area it may be worth combining the two. The entrance fee is really low and what they are doing is great. Giving people the chance to work and give back to Zanzibar and to nature. Our guide Alfred was really friendly and interesting as... More
