Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This large, creamy yellow church with its contrasting blue domes is on the outskirts of Oia. If you are finishing the Fira-Oia Walking Trail, then this is one of the first sights as you enter Oia.
It isn’t listed as one of the must-see places in Oia so we were the only ones there. In contrast, if you try to see the famous three blue domes, then you’ll have to join a snaking queue to take photos.
What you see here is a large church with a long facade. Of five arches. A tall bell tower stands to the right.
Built at the beginning of the 19th century by the Nomikos shipping family, the church houses a holy icon of St George killing the dragon. The icon was brought back from Constantinople to Oia by a Nomikos ancestor.
In 1956 when earthquakes all but destroyed the church, the ship owner, Loukas Nomikos stepped up completely restored it in 1966. One of the busts in the plaza is of Loukas Nomikos.
The church wasn’t open when we were there so we didn’t linger.

My wife and I walked the path in Oia and came upon the Agios Georgios Church. It was one of the few buildings in Oia not painted white. We took some photos and continued our walk. The church was not open when we were in Oia.

Another one of those beautiful churches that sits on a beautiful plaza that was never open during our stay in Oia.

I discovered this church by accident on my walk from our accommodations. I decided to walk the Oia path all the way to the end and discovered this golden yellow beauty. I wasn't able to go inside, since it was very early in the morning. But I was able to get some great outside photos.

Agios Georgios Church on Oia is another stunning church and there were less crowds around it. It's very pretty and worth having a look inside - it's also on the way to the cable car down so you have to go past it if that's your exit route.

Agios Georgios Church is no doubt another landmark in Oia. It is on the different side of Castle Ruins and just walking from one spot to the other without taking much photos will be around half an hour at least. However it will take you two hours if you like photo taking or shopping along the route. There is a large square in front of the church and sometimes you can see visitors come to take wedding photos there too. Recommended.
