We traveled to the bay twice during our stay in Fira. Both times by car. It is very picturesque and worth the trip however you get there. If you walk past all the taverns and continue around the bend there is a swimming area and...More
An idyllic end to a day of sightseeing, but I'm sure there are less expensive ways to watch the sun go down on Santorini! Everything on Santorini is expensive and this is no different! Best for drinks or a special occasion.
The steps down are long, and filled with donkey land-mines, but it is well worth the trek. The view all the way up and down is incredible. The restaurants are very cool. Walking around the rocks led to an amazing and refreshing swimming area -...More
This area is a must see, but be aware that you have to brave more steps than you have ever seen in your life to get here! The steps are steep and covered in donkey poop. I wish I had known that there was an...More
Beautiful sea views accessed either by a very steep small road with very limited parking or walking 248 very steep steps - well worth the climb. Stunning turquoise water glistens in the sunlight, sound of diners laughing and chatting at Dimitri's Taverna (highly recommended), and...More
If you are in Oia, do not miss out to go here for the sunset dinner. We walked down the stairs and straight headed to the swimming area where you can do cliff jumping. Once we were done, we stopped at one the restaurants for...More
It is true about the stairs, they are definitely no joke, BUT totally worth it and definitely something one should do when visiting Oìa.
Amoudi Bay is gorgeous and has a great swimming spot just around the cliff to the left.
We beat the tourists by walking down to the bay via the road and then climbed up the stairs the donkeys use after spending the day in Amoudi Bay. Try different restautrants, have a swim after hiking 20mins following the path past the restaurants, pick...More

I believe your talking about St Nichols. I's about 200-ft from shore. We walked the "trail" around the point from Ammoudi Bay and there is a small swimming area. I would check the tide before venturing into the small channel, slack tide being the calmest; period between high tide and low tide.
Yes, I would. Ask your hotel to reserve a nice table they are more than happy too. They can also reserve a taxi to there and before you leave ask the restaurant manager to call you a taxi back. It’s quite dark after sunset.

We found the whole of Oia to feel extremely safe - including the steps. We were staying above Amoudi Bay and the steps were always well used by lots of people. We walked up and down - there are a lot of steps though - but as long as you're feeling reasonably energetic... be fine. Enjoy.
